It could be a good game after all the patching done, it has a great story, great acting and a pretty good atmospheric sci-fi noir open world.
But I really cannot comprehend how is it possible for a game in 2022 to stop auto-saving your progress and also taking away the ability to manual-save because the save files got corrupted and the reason for this is that they got over 8mb in size !!! Without a warning or any other indication, you're just simply left unable to save. Just like that. No real work around this. And the advice from CDPR takes the cake: Don't hold too many crafting materials in your inventory to keep save files under 8mb. For real.
What is this, the '80s ? I better go back to my Amiga then...
I got this for the first time after hearing it was better now.
Nope, not true.
Models failed to load in, characters mouths were not synced to the dialog, all the characters in the scene including my player character were all T-Posing. And this was 10min in still in the tutorial! I refunded instantly, the tutorial should be one of the most polished parts of a game right? I'm terrified what the rest of the game had to offer.
Only good thing I could say is my frames never really dropped below 60, but not sure that tradeoff is worth it.
I was extremely excited when this game got announced and after years of delays they still released a mess, it has had a couple of updates but nothing really of note. They tried to pass of a couple of cosmetic changes to appartments as a major deal but it really just feels like they've abandoned this game almost. Every time i see it has an update i get a little excited only to be dissapointed by the fact the new patch is just adding some graphical feature to make it look slightly nicer for people that can afford a 4090. Just comparing this game to other open world games (Witcher 3 included) it just feels like they really missed the mark. You can't even paint your car... like such a simple thing and it's just not possible. My worry is that all CDPR are going to do to "fix" this is make paid for DLC that actually adds meaningful content. At this rate though Star Citizen will be out before this feels complete
I'll start with the good - the game has nice story, decent gunplay and the world is somewhat interesting.
And rest is a total mess. The neverending chase for the "next gen graphics" makes this game run bad while also looking bad. No ammount of fine tunning the settings allows it to run smooth, it always dips down here and there.
The other problem that is the consequence of the above is all kind of weird limitations that are most likely in place for the game to even start at consoles. Field of View (FOV) limitations are one of the most aggressive and annoying I've seen in a first person shooter game. For me, the FOV literally makes it unable to play the game, as I'm getting motion sickness from the shifting FOV.
Because while there is an option in the menu to set the FOV to 100, it is only when you're in control and only in first person. When the cutscene kicks in, the FOV (for unfathomable reason for me) shift back to whatever the default is, making me sick to the stomack.
The same happens when you get inside a car - I can't drive them in first person because it simply makes me sick.
The most baffling part is that there is doze (pointless and frankly completely useless) options to "solve motion sickness" problems, but without proper FOV control these do absolutely nothing than try to cover the issue.
And because of the above I can't really talk about the game in detail more, because quite frankly it is still broken on the most basic settings levels. Yes, you can (maybe) try to tinker with FOV with mods, but mine broken randomly and refuses to work. And I shouldn't have to do this.
This should have been in the game from the very start.
Fix your game.
Just started a second playthrough but now i have a ui glitch that should go away, but because the whole game is still a bugfest, i am playing with a distortion ui for 2 hours now.
The fact that this is still present after 3 years of patches and not fixable after a quick reload says it all.
Well, i certainly will not buy the DLC if the base game is still F**KED.
I do like the story, visuals and world but i cannot give this game a good rating in this state.
