A very peculiar enigma of a game that collapsed under its own weight.
Game is at least a year or two ahead of its actual release intent.
On a positive note its a visual treat for those with luxurious Graphic Processing Unit with Ray Tracing capabilities. Only future could say whether CDPR keeps their promise and make this game whole.
You can sense that the game was once on a path to becoming a masterpiece it was shown in the promotional material. You can sense this in dialogues, notes, locations - everywhere there are pieces and remnants of mechanics and quests which were promised yet were never finished or were simply removed.
There are a few truly great quests which are on par with the best of Witcher 3. But, apart from a few of those (can count all good quests using your fingers), the game just abruptly ends leaving you wondering "this was it?". Story is lacking and the most interesting areas never get explored. Gameplay is boring and looting system is just bad. You can see in the perk description and environment that it was meant to be much bigger and deeper. But, alas, we got Fallout 4 type of game.
Summary: its pretty much Witcher 3 in cyberpunk world, but with story length-wise being equivalent to that of Hearts of Stone DLC and gameplay being shallow and simplistic, like Fallout 4.
Even if they patch out the crashing, the content is subpar. This game is two main ideas mashed together. A non-linear RPG "The Ballad of Johnny Silverhand" and an open-world shooter. In one, you're forced along learning enough about the world to be intrigued but never fully change the fundamentals. In the other you're clearing out objectives on your map which mostly consist of kill/loot everything at a target location. CHOOSING whether to kill everyone with ranged, melee, or stealth does not make this a choices & consequences RPG.
But seriously, there are some questionable management decisions. There are twitter and streamer celebs in the game where the voice acting is just... jarring. Also, why include modern pop-culture references in an alt world? Why do I have to deal with some dumb cake/Glados thing in every game? The only Hispanic person talks about his "mama's chili" (it's 'chile' btw, chili is what Sonic puts on hotdogs), every Japanese person talks about their honor, etc. It's absolutely lowest common denominator writing. They aren't going to patch every single voiced line that drops the ball. It's too late.
Crashing every 10 minutes is a blessing when faced with some of the "hurry up and wait" quest scenes. Some car rides are skippable, but there's no rule for this. Content was created by a vast network of people, some of which decided to allow you to skip their emotional car rides, others make you sit for literally minutes before dropping a quick-time event on you (convoy ambush).
Outside of the main content, various quest markers are strewn across the map to complete. Half of which are working for the cops. Some perpetual assault that never leaves until you arrive to find the victim dead on the ground and loot them for required quest completion.
The lifepath system is just a choice of flavor text.
25 hours completion while also clearing one whole "zone" of content and doing a few side stories.
Two stars because congrats on your graphics I guess.
I am disappointed.
It's an action-adventure game, NOT an RPG we were once familiar with.
it's rushed for sure. Life path is meaningless, so many basic RPG elements you promised are not there at all !!!
Just let you know, I am not gonna refund the game cuz of Panna. Her quest showed what you are capable of.
Learn from Dragon age: Origin, polish the game, prove you can do it, CDPR. You guys can do better than No man sky.
I will quit this game now, waiting for its full potential.
