Positives:
+ fantastic writing
+ excellent atmosphere
+ great quests where choices matter
Average:
~ character customization and development. On the surface there is a plethora of options but in reality they do not influence gameplay too much. Ie. perks: +5% reload speed here, + 10% explosive damage there etc. +5% resistance here etc. Same goes for weapon choices
~ combat is just ok, nothing to complain or write home about
Negatives:
- poor optimization. Changing video setting from medium to low for me had no visible impact on performance.
- console port quality level of UI and controls. Game feels very much designed for consoles and controllers
-bugs ie. graphical glitches or quests not updating and not progressing.
Overall solid but definitely not mind blowing experience.
I am flabbergasted by Cyberpunk 2077. I was expecting an awesome open world I could role-play in (you know, because it's a role playing game) and instead I found myself faced with limited customization, a lack of meaningful dialogue, and a character named "V" that I'm positive is just like everyone else's character named "V." I played all three "origin stories" and they had no impact on anything. V is as bland as oatmeal made with water. It's almost like I'm playing Fallout 4 again except the menus are worse and the combat is weird. The one positive difference from Fallout 4 is that V will say what you pressed. I am always waiting for the next game to let me create my own character. It's my favorite part of gaming. I thought I would be able to pretend to be a character I wanted to be, but instead my choices made no difference.
What's going on with having to pick up all the random junk lying around? It's hard to even line V up to pick up all the useless garbage that goes into the poorly designed inventory. There's no feedback in combat. Did that guy take damage? Did I take damage? Better look at the HP bar that blends in with the whole screen--yep I'm almost dead. Never would have known I even took damage otherwise. The controls feel uncomfortable and combat is just not fun for me. The glitches can be funny, but are mostly just annoying. V became naked in the apartment mirror and in the ripperdoc's chair, and V has the weirdest sleep animations I have ever seen. NPCs pop out of thin air, characters walk through closed elevators, no one has anything important to say, and I haven't seen anywhere I could explore for fun. It's a lifeless environment. It's like they spent all the money on creating a sweet vibe and forgot they had to make a game to play too.
Anyway, this game needs like ten updates, and it's annoying that they advertised this game as a finished groundbreaking masterpiece when it is clearly just an average game with an interesting setting.
I'm sad to say that the game in its current state is unplayable for me. I have a GTX 1060 6GB and a
i7-9700k. It is impossible to achieve a stable frame rate even on lower settings. I have no doubt that
CD Project will fix most of the problems eventually but they need a lot more time. Cyberpunk 2077 should've been released in 2021 but I suppose they needed all that X-mas money. 1 year from now
This game will probably get a 5/5 from me. But I recommend you avoid it unless you have a extremely powerful computer.
Even with the performance issues and bugs, I can't give this game more than a 6/10. The game feels bland to play. It's RPG mechanics are lackluster. The writing is not as engaging as Witcher 3's. I didn't have super high expectations for this game but even I am disappointed by this. Night City looks pretty and that's the highest amount of praise I can give the game honestly. It's not a bad game by any means, it's just boring and uninteresting much of the time, which is probably one of the game's biggest sins. I expect more from this game, considering all its development time and its delays. You should too.
Multiple key settings such as F, O, P are fixed and cannot be changed. It is very disappointing that you can't even change the interact key.
It doesn't hold up to the requirements of a PC game.
