Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Beautiful shooter in an empty open world, in which there is nothing to do other than completing the main storyline and several repetitive side missions, dialogues do not affect anything, AI is dumber than Galaxy 2.0 itself.
Cdpr you're fucked up.
P.S The game was bought in Steam ... I don't want to support the CDP anymore, and it's not just cyberpunk, but the fact that they sell some games with DRM (for example Prison Architect), although they write that they only sell DRM-free games. Liars
This really pains me as I really like TW3.
The game itself looks absolutely gorgeous and I had to stop a lot of times to just take in the view. The animations during conversations are also just amazing.
My gripes are with the story and sidequests.
The sidequests are somewhat interesting, but there are way too few and they stop way too early.
All gigs are just some person calling you and asking you to go into a place and kill someone, save someone or download something - None of these carry on any of the potentially interesting storylines they present. You get some money transfered as a thanks, and then it's just bye.
The boxing minigame is 4 matches and a final. I chose to let cesar keep his car and gave him some money, but when I say him at the finals he had nothing to remark other than "hello, I know you can do it"
I have completed all the gigs, collected all collectibles and done all NCPD scanner stuff. None of these ended up in something interresting or substantial.
My reward for collecting all the tarot ? 60 sec dialogue.
My reward for doing all 17 cyberpsycho quests ? 60 sec dialogue and some money.
None of the fixers you help will change their perception of you, even if you have completed all their missions.
All this side content is only a bit better than your average open world bland Ubisoft stuff though a bit darker.
The story is very short but is populated with interesting characters - that doesn't do much.
You do not spend enough time with anyone to really build any connections with them.
An example i Jackie - We end up way too early at his moms bar and the whole scene is lost because we've barely interacted up to the heist. Show me he is a friend, dont tell me he is.
CDPR has an amazing canvas on which to paint compelling narratives but sadly they really missed the mark with almost ZERO RPG-elements.
This is an open world looter shooter, nothing more.
I have many other things, but not enough space.
Play it if you want to kill 50-70 hrs.
As stated above, the Deus EX series (especially Humankind, available in the GOG store) is the better Cyberpunk. It's not an "open World game" as CP2077 and you can't drive any vehicles but the lack of said features is benefical to the gameplay and even more to the immersion. And you get the feeling that your dialogue choices really matter and are not a mere thing you have to go through to continue the storyline.
The story or thriving idea is, in broader context, the same as in all cyberpunk genre games ("What defines a human beeing?" "What society we want to live in?") but the storytelling in cp2077 is good and enyoable if you squint your eyes, overlooking all the (fixable) glitches.
40hs in the game I currently enjoy more the side quest and the stories and characters presented in it than the main quest. But this is more a compliment to CDRP for their storytelling and character presentation then a complaint about the main quest.
All in al I would wait to buy the game until the main patches are implemented or a "enhanced" edition is released.
This game has a lot of potential but almost all the core mechanics are just broken or just wrong by design.
- Melee combat - Light attack do next to nothing even with powerful weapon where heavy attacks can one shot enemy. Also there are no combos there. Dodging is just bad on both keyboard and gamepad. Who thought that it will be good idea to put crouch and dodge on the same button? There are a lot of options that can be used to dodge that will work much better even without double tap.
- Shooting - incredibly wonky. There is no difference in aim assist on and off. Guns feel weak and headshot damage is a joke. You're better off with using melee weapon with heavy attacks most of the game.
- Driving - Designers and developers of the driving mechanics should visit a driving school and try sitting in car. In some cars I can't see the road or other cars properly. The cars feel like balloon and slow balloon at that. Driving for 500m take too much time given the speed I'm driving.
- AI - incredibly dumb I can seriously walk to an enemy while he is in cover stand before him, charge my attack before AI decides that it would be a good idea to attack me. AI doesn't react to player outside of combat. It doesn't care about bumping or standing in the middle of the road.
- Hacking - it was never properly introduced and explained(talking about the puzzle here).
UI is incredibly buggy. Weapons detail popups are constantly stuck on my screen until I restart game. In some dialogs conversation UI ignores my input meaning I can't progress. Also who though it will be a good idea to slow character to a crawl while talking on the phone disabling all the other actions in the game? Also who though that the only way to end conversation is to walk away from the character to the other part of the city? Just press escape or B button to end conversation would be nice.
The game is not worth the price. Maybe it will be fixed down the line but for now stay away from it.
