Game has a lot of stuff to improve, yet it is already one of my favorite of all time.
History 10/10
Gameplay 9/10
Music 10/10
Graphics 8/10 (based on my mid range setup)
This was my firs pre-order due to CDPR being my beloved dev, but I don't think I will do it again. Not because of bugs, because how they blocked console reviews - this was not honorable, it was disgusting... shame on you CDPR.
Game is good, but needs a bit of polish. Released with bugs and poor optimization.
Pros:
- story, writing, characters
- graphics - Night City (OMG, impossibly good)
- soundtrack/music - AMAZING
- guns, gunplay, gunplay advancement with experience
- motorcycles and cars
- number of ways to go about a mission - run and gun, stealth, talk it out maybe
Cons:
- story shorter than The Witcher 3, like 1/3 of it.
- bugs and glitches
I played the game on a friend's XBOX (the new one) - I wanted to see for myself if it really was the fiasco that the media made it. I liked it so much that I got it for PC.
Yes, there are a lot of issues that need fixing (AI and police systems should be top priority IMO) and they will be fixed, but first and foremost, it is a game that leaves lasting impression and it will only get better from now on.
As I see it, despite its rocky launch, the game will become a classic to be played for years to come.
I have played games for at least 32 years and I cannot remember having so much fun in a game, getting more absorbed in a game's plot, or appreciating a game's characters and setting more.
Yes it has its bugs.. as so many great games before it had bugs on release; Skyrim, New Vegas etc. As long as they get fixed this is not a huge deal in my eyes, and I think that the games press should expect more bugs as games get more technically complex and more ambitious - and can you think of a game that has been more ambitious lately?
Did the bugs spoil my enjoyment of the game? No, not really. Maybe I was lucky in playing it on the PC, and managing ultra graphics settings on my Nvidea 1080 card and 3440x1440p monitor, but they really did not stop me enjoying and appreciating the game.
I finished downloading the game at 20 mins to midnight on release day, and then played for 28 SOLID HOURS until I had finished the game. No sleep. Bear in mind that I'm 38 and have responsibilties, this is something I really don't do regularly, and only reserve for games which really capture me.
Was it worth the wife and my boss getting annoyed at me? For sure. Would I do it again? Definitely. Can't wait until the DLC comes out.
I didn't have any major issues.
(i7 6850k, 1080Ti, 32GB RAM, NVME SSD, 32:9 1440p super-ultra-wide monitor, played with Xbox controller which took about an hour of tuning the sensitivity settings)
This game was easily my favorite single player game in years. Don't really compare it to GTA, though it has some obvious similarities visually, the gameplay is nothing the same. It plays more like Fallout 4 combat and character creation, Mass Effect dialog, with a dash or Borderlands weapon variability. If you go in expecting the best and worst from those games, you will be prepared for the experience.
Also of note, its very easy to min/max. I personally love this, a single player game should allow such freedoms. This has a bit of a downside, in that if you try to be the "best" you can be, the game gets easy.
Since there are some decent branches in the story, and more importantly a drastically different ways to accomplish missions (Range combat, hand to hand, stealth), I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice by trying to play the "perfect" build. The game is more fun if you give your character a "code." My first character felt he should defeat all enemies in hand-to-hand combat. Unlike the Elder Scrolls games, Hand-to-hand is a very viable, and pretty satisfying combat style.
The side quests are huge in this game. If you b-line through the main story, you are missing out. The games the biggest flaw is that it encourages you to do just that. The main story's urgency will have you feeling bad for doing side quests most of the time. There is no penalty for delaying doing the main quests, however. So do some mental gymnastics, and put off doing the main quests until you really feel like you are ready for them.
If you let yourself become immersed in the world, this game is epic. If you like FPS combat focused RPGs with a decent amount of dialog, and enjoy the cyber punk setting, I think you'll love this game (assuming you don't run into any game breaking glitches)
