Night City is immersive but ultimately the game holds your hand far too much to be enjoyed as much it should. The you will enjoy this game but you will be frustrated by the fact that no matter what start you pick you end up doing the same thing in the same situations; and act 1 will feel just as linear. I don't think user made mods can fix how linear the game can be. You are always V no matter what kind of character you want to be.
I think everyone had a collective brain freeze when it was first announced CD Project Red were taking up the reins of a proper open-world Cyberpunk RPG - and not just creating their own world, but adapting the work created by Michael Pondsmith in the cult classic TTRPG series, Cyberpunk.
It's been years of waiting with numerous delays being announced and finally, on December 9, we were finally able to witness the graphical representation of Night City in all its glory.
This is, however, going to be a brutally honest review - because I, frankly, love this game and believe it met all of my restrained expectations. I love that this world is so visually rich and vibrant. I love the post-modern aesthetic. I love the exploration of the city. I love the personalized stories that the game allows you to choose through. I love the gunplay even with its flaws.
It is just such a shame that despite the many delays this year, alone, the game was still shipped with graphical and gameplay bugs that can otherwise take people out of the experience; and that, really, is the only major flaw that merits a 4/5. It isn't a perfect game by any means, but it's still pretty damn fantastic to be playing through it.
First of all, I really really love the setting and the art. Cyberpunk 2077 visualises perfectly the 80/90 Cyberpunk. The city is huge and stunning.
But...
Bugs and Glitches.
Discovered in the first hours a lot of Bugs. Wrong Sound files played, the map freezes while fast travel, objects glitched into V/the Camera, Couldn't progress missions because of reasons and got to restart game and some more I stumbled on.
Just keep fixing the game fellas.
I haven't played very long so this review will probably me updated. First impressions with graphics are great, as well as animation and voiceacting. The combat feels pretty good too, if it wasn't for some controle issues. I'm playing with keyboard & mouse and there are some things which feels very off. The dodge is a double tap of a movement button, and, as far as I can see, you can't change it. While making my character the menu kept scrolling to the top as well. Other than that, so far so good.
