Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single player or local co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets while you try to pay your debt back to the devil!
The animation in this game is second to none, and the game-play and controls are fantastic. I can safely say that this is one of the most expertly crafted games I have ever played, and there is nothing quite like it on the market. That being said, it is insanely hard, and extremely short. Despite the fact that it is a frustratingly hard game, I actually enjoyed playing the game. It reminds me of the old arcade style shoot-em-up's from many years past, but with a modern flair. It's an instant classic. However, I wish they could have created a lot more levels to play, and dialed back the level of difficulty. You can actually play on simple mode, but you're not actually able to beat the game this way. You HAVE to play the game on the regular setting. It's HARD.
Cuphead is a hard and beautiful run 'n gun game, with a 1930's cartoons art style. It's hard, but it's also relly fair. At no point did I feel my deaths were caused by anything else than my lack of skill. So if you are looking for a hard, fair and beautiful game which doesn't have microtransactions or any of that modern day bs, Cuphead is the game you are looking for. I would give this 6/5 if I could!
You've seen the reviews and the Let's Plays, or maybe just the screenshots right here on the GOG page. You really don't need me to tell you the game is charming--you can see that for yourself! Why am I writing this then? Because if you are still deciding whether or not to buy this game, I would like to tell you why I think this is a game that everyone should play!
The experience feels so fresh and new, while at the same time feeling so familiar. For the fresh and new, this game's presentation was lovingly crafted to feel like the old 1930's cartoons--from the hand-drawn animations to the painted backgrounds, all while an upbeat old-school jazz reminds you to stay positive no matter how tough life can be.
Life certainly can be tough if you're in the world of Cuphead. There are no checkpoints in the levels, and you will die in 3 hits and there are no extra hit-point pickups to be found. It is NOT impossible, though! If you've ever played the 2D MegaMan games, you'll recognize the familiar feeling of memorizing boss patterns and watching for attack wind-up andimations. This game is certainly challenging, but if you're worried about it being too difficult to keep you from enjoying it, don't worry! Let me tell you that as a novice gamer, this game is more forgiving than you might expect given some of the reviews. You will find as I did that it will teach you how to better hone your skills along the way. When you die, you don't feel frustrated, you are only thinking about how to avoid your mistakes on your next try.
Cuphead is one of the few games that has perfectly crafted graphics and gameplay. It's one of the few games that I can 100% recommend, without any caveats. I don't know what's next for StudioMDHR, but they have created a delightful masterpiece with Cuphead that will certainly stand the test of time!
