Description
In this classic point-and-click adventure anthology you follow the path of Dale Vandermeer, a homicide detective, as he investigates the death of a woman and finds himself drawn into the mysterious world of Rusty Lake.

Cube Escape was Rusty Lake's first series of games, introducing the Rusty Lake universe. Heavily inspired by TV series Twin Peaks. All games are updated, preserved and bundled on GOG for a small price, to survive the end of the Flash Games era.

The Cube Escape Collection contains 9 chapters: Seasons, The Lake, Arles, Harvey's Box, Case 23, The Mill, Birthday, Theatre and The Cave.

Thanks for your support!

Restored, but not in all it's glory

The cube escape series is great. Highly recommend it. However, I have a problem with this re-release of the games. It appears they have been altered. The original games had 3d movement and lighting effects which have been completely removed without an option to re-enable them. You can confirm this by watching lets plays on youtube that several games in the collection looked completely different a few years ago. It is possible this change was due to technical limitations, or perhaps to streamline with the android release. In either case however I am disturbed at this negative alteration and I cannot find any explanation online. Instead of paying for an inferior version, I would recommend installing a desktop flash player, downloading the swf files from their website, and playing that way instead.

A strange suspenseful mystery

I originally played this on Kongregate and most some a while ago so disclaimer as to potential changes. These games are absolutely one of the most interesting ones I've played. The puzzles are unique, making use of a locked room aspect often. The atmosphere is oddly relaxed for a game that has so many strange and disturbing elements. It mainly relies on a sense of suspense and curiosity as you search for answers (which often bring more questions). When I say it is psychological I mean it. At some points you go into people's thoughts, and your searching for answers to a mystery of WHO these people and why they act this way are, as much as what was actually being done. In some ways it's hard to describe these games. It is at times disturbing and confusing. The puzzles are rewarding, and often difficulr. Reincarnation is a big theme, and of course, cubes. The art is lovely with soft delicate colors balancing the odd nature of these rooms. Some mainly spoiler-free warnings, keeping in mind this is a game with horror/suspense elements. As the description says it's inspired by Twin Peaks. Note there are some moments of blood and shadowy figures. Sometimes an action will trigger something startling. Generally there's some sort of indication but once or twice it has mild jumpscares. (Something appears that you didn't expect and there may be a sudden piano note punctuating that, for example) Not anything too extreme in my opinion but you may want to play during daytime. However I think the delicate art style combats many of the more particularly gruesome moments.

A wonderfully surreal experience

These game are not only great escape room puzzles, but there is an overarching narrative that has spawned an entire universe including a live action short film. Surreal and bizarre in all of the best ways. Piecing together the otherworldly lore to understand exactly what it is that's going on is part of the experience. You'll be lost as to what the heck is happening for a lot of it, but that's not a bad thing and it only compels you forward to see what's next.

Had a great time with these mini-games!

The Cube Escape Collection is a collection of shorter mini games with various puzzles and gameplay elements. They're all different from eachother, telling several stories that in the end connects together. From what I understand these were originally released as Flash games, but were "saved" after the demise of Adobe Flash - made into this collection instead! As these are the original Cube Escape/Rusty Lake games, they built the path for the other games in the series. However there's a certain order you should play them (especially since some games have various codes and references to eachother), but I recommend you to look up that yourself. I love the Twin Peaks references, the soundtrack is great and the graphical design is really good for this type of game. Nothing feels forced or tedious, each mini game tells a unique story and you just want to know more after playing each one of them. I had a great time with these games and I truly recommend this as a good start for someone who is interested in playing the Cube Escape/Rusty Lake games.

Very good though...

There is bunch of games to accomplish, loosely connected. Playing order doesn't impact solving capability. Some of them are very good, some shows team exhaustion:); The Case23 requires solving puzzle on time, which is not my pair of shoes. One can't deny RL team gifts: puzzles are very good, inventive and sometimes even hard to define, just solved intuitively. This being said, all puzzles are very logical and non-arbitrary. If you can't solve them means only you didn't spend enough thinking. All are solvable without luck or chance. LIKE: - great vector graphic - great taste - ingenious and original puzzles DOESN'T LIKE: - bad taste:) (fetus from the toilet bowl?!) - Van Gogh instead of Dali or Magritte - less patriotic but more appropriate, BOTTOM LINE: You should play this but be aware that taboo will be broken:)
