Description
Warning: This game will mess with your mind.

Put aside your gaming preconceptions and embrace the unique experience that is Ctrl Alt Ego.

Play the role of yourself, minus your body.

Transmit yourself between bots and devices and exploit the innovative mechanics to solve problems your way.

Explore a deep, nonlinear, interconnected world, evocative of 70s/80s era low-budget British sci-fi television.

Shoot, sneak or get creative, be pacifist or executor.

Enjoy a darkly farcical story about the future of human consciousness.

If you enjoy immersive sims, there's every chance you'll enjoy this.

If you don't know what an immersive sim is, but you enjoy thinking for yourself and solving puzzles with no preordained solution, this game is for you.

If you're an experienced gamer looking for a fresh, engrossing experience, you just found it!

Distinct Features

  • There's no inventory... the environment itself is your always-available on-demand diegetic inventory.

  • There is no 'player death' in Ctrl Alt Ego. Your invincible, disembodied ego always lives on. If your current host is toast, pick another and carry on:

(Note: there is a traditional save/load facility too, in case you refuse to accept who you are).

  • Once you've ctrl'd a robot, it is yours to keep. Amass an army and bring it with you:

  • Use robots to get around the old fashioned way, or 'hop' from one side of an area to another in a near-instant:

Original... but somehow bland

I really wanted to like this game. I am starved for original fresh indie games that do not cater to the pixel art asthethic. But after 2 hours of play I regretfully un-installed the game. It was not fun to play. The arty style of the games logo fooled me. Its style isn't modern, it's retro, 60s sci fi ugly. And if you dig it, it's fine. But for me there was something repelling about the art style, the dizzying gameplay of constantly shifting perspectives, the obnoxious british nareator. I just did not want to be in this world. Not because it was scary are intimidating. Because it was ugly and boring.

Doubleplusgood immersive sim

I grabbed Shift as my first power instead of the recommended Shotgun or Jetpack. I soon learned that I could telekinetically hurl a broken vending machine into those who opposed me. So yeah, I think I made a pretty good choice.

Art

I would consider this a 'games as art' game due to how it expresses the feeling of being a disembodied conciousness via gameplay. I have nothing negative to say, not that the game is flawless, but rather than the flaws pale to irrelevance in the face of how good the game is. I would say the sales pitch is still a pitch, no the game will not "mess with your mind", you just move around by controlling things is all. But that's fine. I've never been able to find a definitive definition of what an immersive sim actually is, it's always been a bit vague, but I think this game is the definition.

Messy puzzle, anything goes

They call it an "immersive sim", I call it a survival puzzle game. You have to manage carefully resources to go through the ship and progress. Anything goes, so yoiu are free to mess up, there is always a solution, but often messy, but hey, that's progress, You better not have motion sickness though.
