Crystal Caves is a colorful game with arcade-style gameplay, puzzles and graphics. As Mylo Steamwitz, you'll enter cave after cave of adventure, gathering the treasures of each, while evading hazards galore!

The game begins with Mylo rocketing to the Altairian star system on a simple treasure hunt. But what happens is far more dangerous than even Mylo bargained for. He enters an underground world of chambers full of alien technology and traps. Strange alien creatures and robots inhabit the caves, protecting the priceless crystals from money-greedy explorers.

On some levels Mylo will even walk up-side-down! Other levels have such low gravity that the recoil from Mylo's laser pistol can knock him into other dangers! Some levels are without lights, and others are packed full of falling hammers egg-dropping alien bats, free roaming slither eyes, web-shooting alien spiders, and much, much more.

Can you help Mylo strike it rich and quit his day job?
  • 48 creative and fun-filled levels, such as zero gravity or no lights.
  • Lots of crazy creatures to defeat.
  • Many ingenious puzzles to solve.

Epic. The first Dark Souls

I think I played Crystal Caves when I was 5 or 6 years old, along with Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, etc. It is a simple platform game, a jump'n'run, where the goal is to find all the crystals in each level, along with your blaster to protect yourself against monsters (snakes, robots, dinosaurs, one-eyed-things, two-eyed things with a big mouth, falling rocks, snakes whose carcasses take 1 HP etc. Some monsters have to be approached very carefully, and with planning. An that is about it, roughly. The mines are a hub, from which you access different caves, and this is where you save your progress. CC1 I remember very vividly, the levels are saved in my 5/6-year-old's mind, and I beat it quickly after I bought the game. CC2 and 3, however, are very tough as I am playing them for the first time. It seems the developers went wild, and thought how to make each level as hard as possible. The fun is not that big as with the first one, although I still like it. You just have to "git gud". I'll finish with a summary. If you: A) love pixels, and want to play old games, and witness gaming history B) want to show your children how games were back in the day C) want to have fun and challenge yourself get Crystal Caves. And with time, get good at playing it.

Pacman and Super Mario drawn together

This game is a perfect mixture of Pacman and Super Mario: objects that must be collected; enemies defeatable only with power up; diamonds hidden in some bricks. The background of some levels is an explicit easter egg of Super Mario. The world three overworld has an inescapable area in the top left, whose 3-4 levels MUST be completed LAST; furthermore it has some levels with chests but without key to unlock them. Each overworld has an higher difficulty so I recommend to play them in order.

Crystal Caves

Played this on PC a bunch as a kid during 90s. Was a fun enough platformer with light puzzle elements to search and find every gem. Heartily recommend it for its exploration and collecting. Expect some trial and error to pass through some areas, but stages aren't long so not much time is lost. A good game to pick up and play when you have a few moments. (There are 3 Crystal Caves games and while the sequels have minor design improvements, each game is the same format and a very basic story.)

Helping Mylo

It features three episodes that provide enjoyable experiences for both seasoned players and newcomers to classic puzzle platformers. The learning curve is well-balanced, so don’t expect to just grab gems and exit the levels effortlessly. Episode 2 is where the pace picks up, but it slows down again in Episode 3, and if you're looking for an updated fourth episode, you'll find that in the HD remaster. Overall, it's a classic OG Apogee platformer that I would describe as very challenging in places, reminiscent of what I call 90s hard, which may deter those who aren't accustomed to that level of difficulty. Also bring music with you because their is only sound effects.
