Legends of the past come back to life in this charming European mystery adventure.

Crowns and Pawns, a modern-day point and click adventure, inspired by classics such as Broken Sword, Monkey Island, Still Life, Syberia and others. The game highlights the less explored history of Europe to the world of adventurers. Experience the legendary stories of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, bring to light the villainous branch of the KGB, solve puzzles and follow hints to reveal the secrets of the King who was never crowned.

The story follows a girl from Chicago, Milda, who unexpectedly receives an inheritance from her grandfather – a house in Lithuania. She sets off to Europe, but upon arrival she is threatened by an unknown man, demanding that she gives up her inheritance. Determined and intrigued, she explores the run-down house, discovering old documents and clues dating back to the 15th century. Before long, Milda gets dragged into a dangerous search for a long-lost mysterious relic...

  • A blend of history and myths set in a modern world, featuring real life locations all around Europe.
  • Crowns and Pawns is led by the art director of the highly acclaimed fan-adventure Broken Sword 2.5.
  • Classic point-and-click puzzles that involve finding items hidden in beautiful environments, creatively combining the contents of your inventory, interesting dialogue choices, and more!
  • Beautiful hand painted art that comes to life with a touch of modern graphics features.
  • A world that reacts to your decisions.
  • Change the looks of the main character to solve puzzles (or for fun!).
  • Fully voiced dialogue.
  • Music written by the award winning composer Daniel Pharos (A New Beginning, Memoria, Blackguards).
  • A control scheme perfectly adapted for the best possible experience with both a mouse and a gamepad.

Pleasent but a Lacking Subtance

A serviceable and pleasant-enough game but short and more shallow than it seems. After a tutorial and some initial low-pressure series of puzzles the plot finally becomes more tense only to end shortly afterwards. The final screen of the game looks like a puzzle set-piece only to skip over it entirely in a cut-scene, making it seem unfinished. The ambiguous supernatural angle of the plot is also under-developed. There are frequent dialogue choices, but none of them matter; it’s rare for a choice to even cause a single sentence difference in response compared to the other options. The choice of profession in the beginning of the game only affects a single puzzle which has a different solution for each of the professions. It does not affect the character’s outlook or behavior at all and adds virtually nothing to the atmosphere or personality of the game. You may or may not find changing the character’s clothing and hair to be amusing, but it is also another shallow distraction with no real effect on the game. Milda can be made to look neat and professional or like a sloppy teenager but her behavior and the way other people react to her remain the same. Outside of a tutorial puzzle there is also no need to ever do it again, although being able to change the bland default appearance is a plus. Character interactions are strangely soft and mild with almost no antagonism even when it would make a scene funnier or increase a sense of overcoming an obstacle. The worst you encounter is a rude librarian (who will still fetch books for you) until real villains enter the game shortly before it ends. All these agreeable and helpful people make character interaction bland. There are no memorable characters and very little memorable dialogue. The game is not annoying but it is not very memorable or substantial.

Not worth it

It's only 4 hours even taking it really slow and leaving it running while you do other stuff. The puzzles are terrible. A few require trial and error with really slow animations. None make you think. Many characters take forever to get through an animation everytime you talk to them. There is no run animation, though you can warp to exits by double clicking. It feels like a game they knew was nothing and tried to pad it out by making it too slow to do anything. Really weak overall. There are a few cute jokes and references to other games, but that's about it. Really weak story with no story hooks. I did like that you could change your outfit anytime though. Overall, don't bother, even on sale.

Well done P&C game

It's a typical P&C adventure, where you search for old artifacts, resolve old mysteries, and so on — you probably saw many similar games if you like the genre — and it's well done. Pros: + Puzzles. They have logic, no "click everywhere, something should work". + Humor. There is humor, and it's just enough of it. Some P&C games make hundreds of hot points with stupid jokes in every sentence even if the writer is exhausted. This game is not one of them, it sounds fresh. + Art, voices, dialogs — All is well done. + Setting. Thank God, it's not dunning Templars. The game starts in Chicago and quickly moves to Vilnius, it talks about the history and culture of the Greate Duchy of Lithuania. I think that's how such games have to be made. Seriously, there is no difference in gameplay if you search for Graal or Vytautas' Crown, but I fed enough with cliches copied between different movies and games. Using local culture is a great thing. + No forced romance/woke etc. There are some dialog options where you can manifest your interest in a girlfriend/boyfriend and you also can select "C'mon, we have a job to do" instead. Finally. I'm a bit tired of the latest RPGs where you have to *** the entire company for bonuses/achievements. Cons: - It's short and narrow (typically, there are not so many tasks you can do in parallel). - Some puzzles could be more polished. So, generally, it's a good game in the genre but it feels incomplete — it's the main drawback to me. So, 4/5, and anyway, I had a nice time with the game.

far too short

It is a fairly good game but far too short. It should have been at least twice as long for the money. I should have waited for the bigger discount to buy it. Should not cost more than 8 EUR. Graphics are nice if you like cartoon like characters. It is nice to be able to customize your avatar, although there should be more choices. Wait for a big discount to buy it and then you won't be disappointed.
