Thousands of aliens, giant spiders, mutant lizards, and more are on the attack - can you survive the onslaught? In Crimsonland you will unlock new weapons and perks constantly improving your abilities and arsenal. Your screen will be filled with literally hundreds of monsters and thousands of giblets. Grab your gun and prepare for endless hours of intense top-down shooter fun!
Perks
What are perks? Perks are like talents in an RPG game. You earn XP by killing monsters and with XP you earn levels. After leveling up you get to choose a perk. For example, a perk called Fastloader enables you to reload extremely fast. During a session perks will stack up a and every game will be a bit different. You'll unlock perks during the quest mode after which they become available in the survival game modes.
Weapons & Carnage
We've created a huge arsenal of 30 unique weapons ranging from the humble pistol to the mysterious Shrinkifier 5k. The weapons are unlocked by playing the quest mode and they become available in survival game modes as well. The better your arsenal - the better chances you have at scoring higher outside the quest mode.
Co-op Mayhem
All Crimsonland game modes feature local co-op for up to four players. Gather your friends and show everyone who wields the gauss shotgun like a pro!
Crimsonland Classic, the 2003 version, is included as a FREE extra!

Nostalgia in spades. Great basic top down twin stick shooter from back in the day. Classic but unless you have a specific thing for this, it'll feel pretty mindless and basic.
Never played the original, so I don't have nostalgia tainting my review. This is an extremely mediocre and bare bones top-down shooter that takes place in a tiny arena. Mobs spawn in, you kill them for xp and random weapon/powerup drops, and that's all there is to it. The arena itself never changes except for the background image, and even then only between boring dirt or colored dirt.
As with similar top-down wave-based games, luck plays a slightly larger part in your success than skill; which perks you're presented when you level up or what weapons are dropped when you kill enemies are entirely randomized. You could get a piercing gauss rifle that kills everything between you and the edge of the map...or a blowtorch that requires you to hug the mobs (admittedly a high-damage hug).
Comparing the price of this game vs the lack of content and the repetitive simplicity of the gameplay, it's simply not justifiable at full price unless you have a strong nostalgic attachment to the original. If you don't have that attachment, you really won't be missing out on much if you skip this.
I had this game back when Reflexive Interactive or whoever were the ones selling it. I was lucky and ran into it on accident right about when it was first released, and was there right up until the front news page stopped getting constant updates. Played this game way too much, it's a total blast. Now it's on GOG. Get it.
Everyone I know disagrees on COD vs Battlefield and Starcraft vs Total Annihilation but they all love Crimsonland. Everyone. It's a universally fantastic game. Cannot go wrong. I got it within 5 minutes of seeing the store page because it is worth it, more so now it's from GOG. I repeat, you cannot go wrong with this purchase. Games should only be something you play and have fun, not graphics or audio or a few gimmicks. Having fun is what this game does best and is a universal 5/5 for all gamers.
