Description
This is no ordinary game. By playing Creatures, you will be taking part in one of the largest Artificial Life experiments ever. Raise and train a troupe of cuddly virtual life creatures that live on the Capillata space ship and help them reach the level of advancement sufficient to fly it. This task is not easy, Norns are eager to learn but because they own individual personalities they may not always do what you want them to (or even what you expect!). Like a good parent you must be patient, teach them new things using many tools available and raise them the best you can so that after some time you could be proud of how much they have managed to achieve.
Multiplayer notice: The multiplayer features of the Creature Docking Station are no longer available.
Creatures Exodus is a recompilation of Creatures 3 and Docking Station
Unique gameplay consisting of breeding and raising autonomous, computer-controlled Norns

Maybe it's just because I suffer from hypernostalgia, but I always get a warm fuzzy feeling when I launch Creatures. And when coming back to it after a long time away, I'm always astounded by the intelligence of the creatures. The technology the game uses really is groundbreaking; it's a shame that nothing ever became of it. However, it's definitely worth checking out.
I have C3 and its is the best game I ahve played... From the stand point of someone who designs AI, This game has made me re-think what is possible with my limited resources. Especially for a 5 year old game.
Creatures Exodus is now a time capsule of life simulation which no other game has come close to replicating. This is not to say that Creatures offers the most complex form of life simulation on the market. However, the charm of Norns and the connection I felt with them has never been achieved by another game.
By now, there are thousands of user-created additions available to those interested, with more being created even now in 2021. These include toys and food for your creatures, new breeds of Norns and critters, and even new terrariums to raise them in. But, honestly, the base game itself provides the possibility of several hundred hours of enjoyment, if not thousands.
I would recommend starting from the beginning of the series before finding your home here. But I believe this is a great buy for any old fan of the series who wants to take another look back. It's also a great way to introduce young children to their first pets.
The AI is quite impressive. You have to take care of little creatures called Norns. You have to teach them how to respond to their needs, though they can learn this by themselves and even each other(it's quite fascinating to see one little Norn say that it's hungry and an adult Norn telling it to eat some fruit!).
When they get sick or hurt you can treat them with medical devices. You also need to take care of them by locking doors and creating defensive systems. You have to maintain the population by encouraging them to breed. (If you didn't know how, you can do this by putting a male next to a female and telling him to "push Norn":)).
Before the Norns can speak, you can guide their actions by petting/tickling them to re-inforce good actions and spanking them to correct bad ones. Later you can do this by typing words. Obviously, teaching them to speak is important, and you can do this by telling them what each thing is, or by using an automated machine to teach them.
It's a fascinating game which should provide months of entertainment. If you like virtual-people/creature simulations you can't miss this game. It would also make a good gift for your wife/girlfriend.
I remember playing this when I was six years old, or rather watching, my older cousin play this game. There were some thing she would not allow me to see on it yet, I still thought it was a neat game. Now that I'm older I see how advanced this game and it's series was for it's time[and the graphics aren't half bad either.]
