Description
Craft The World is a unique sandbox strategy game, the mix of Dungeon Keeper, Terraria and Dwarf Fortress.

Explore a random generated world populated by dangerous creatures, build a dwarf fortress, gather resources, and craft all the items, weapons, and armor you need.
  • GOD-SIMULATION: You control a tribe of dwarves by giving them commands to dig in certain places, attack enemy creatures, and build houses and other structures. You'll need to provide your dwarves food and clothing, as well as help them with magic when fighting against other inhabitants of the world. You start the game with one dwarf and gain additional dwarves as your experience level increases.
  • SANDBOX GAME: Each game level has many layers of earth to explore, from the sky down to boiling subterranean lava. The level is randomly generated as an island, restricted by natural boundaries: oceans on the edges, lava beneath it, and the sky above. Other features include day and night and changing weather conditions. The worlds differ in size, humidity, temperature, terrain, and flora and fauna. Abandoned halls and rooms with treasure are hidden somewhere deep within the islands.
  • CRAFTING: One feature of the game is a user-friendly system of recipes for crafting. The recipes are organized and easily accessible. You can craft dozens of different items: building blocks for houses, furniture, decorations, weapons, armor, ammunition, and food for your dwarves.
  • RTS: At the outset you find the recipes for basic tools and items, and build a small house with places to sleep and eat. Then, the size of the tribe increases and catches the attention of other inhabitants of the world. Most of them are night creatures and dwell underground. The worlds are full of fantasy creatures like zombies, skeletons, goblins, beholders, ghosts, giant spiders, and others. Some of them pay little attention to the dwarves, as long as the dwarves do not come into their field of vision. Others gather into quite large groups and try to break into the dwarves’ residence.
  • TOWER DEFENSE: Especially dangerous are the waves of monsters that appear from time to time from portals. So, do not neglect to build a safe haven with strong walls and numerous trapdoors, cells, firing towers, and secret passageways.
  • MAGIC: As a divine being, you possess various spells. You can speed up the movement of the dwarves, open small portals, illuminate dark caves to scare away monsters, evoke natural magic in the form of rain or tree growth, hurl fireballs at the monsters’ heads, and find useful resources and hidden rooms underground, thereby helping to speed up resource extraction, exploration of the world, and the population growth of your assistants.

I Really Wanted To Enjoy This

A game that's a mix of Dungeon Keeper, Terraria, and Dwarf Fortress-- like the salespage claims-- has a ton of potential to be fun and engaging, and Craft the World has the framework for that type of game. Unfortunately, this game is brought down by a LOT of problems. The biggest being the horrible HORRIBLE dwarf & enemy AI. You're only given limited control of the dwarves that join your fortress, which isn't necessarily a bad game mechanic. There are many other games that do the "tag a task you want to be done, one of your colonists will do it automatically" thing well (ex: RimWorld). But the dwarf colonists in this game are so freakin' stupid, slow, and clumbsy, it ends up taking forever to get anything done. And don't even get me started on the combat. The whole game is just an excercise in tedium. In addition to waiting on stupid, slow-moving colonists, you have a huge techtree that takes forever to get through, clunky UI, art design that belongs in a free-to-play mobile game, and repetitive quests that are nothing more than "Progress through the tech tree". Plus, you have to pay extra for DLC to get multiplayer and WOMEN dwarves. Those things should have been included in the base game, charging for them is greedy and stupid. I wanted to like this game, I've given it many tries. But in the hours I've put into it, I *still* haven't gotten past the first level in the campaign, and the whole time I was thinking "Maybe the game will become more enjoyable after I've progressed more." But no, it never reaches anywhere close to the highs of the games that were an inspiration for this one. I regret ever spending money on this clunky cash-grab.

Great game..

World builder... 2D Platform... You want extra stuff buy the dlc's that includes multiplayer... Multiplay is a dlc (mod), you must have the same version... but I don't need to play with others.... DLC are not expensive and the game is generally on sale for under $10. I own the steam version.. I own the Gog version, GOG is better, download and install. I play on a linux system the app runs well. There are bugs in the DLC.. I find using sum DLC beter then all, all changes the game so the completion goal can't be met, but if I add grottoes, abandoned mines, and hero's they work well. All DLC's work well on there own, to make it better removing the bugs from them all being installed together would make it wonderful... Without the DLC the Game is 5 stars for a base builder game. This is a game on it's own it is not terraria, minetest, minecraft, and has it merits as a base builder. I recommend those that like base builder to buy it but it is not an easy game, and the rewards are not instant. you must learn the game to get anywhere. This game is single player..... you use a DLC for multiplayer (Craft The World - Dig with Friends ). It has multiplayer but you must be running the same dlc's and the same versions. All dlc's are paid for in any game. Cant wait for the new armor and weapon DLC that will be released, I hope it will be good. I enjoy this game.. DLC or no DLC but it is worth playing

A lot like Oxygen not included

This is a very fun game. The crafting and research is useful and fun without being overly complicated. It is also shown in the game. Some games' crafting is all by experiment - I don't have time for that. There is a fun level of combat. Exploration. Generally very fun.

This game is why I hate "casual" gaming!

Now that I got your attention with the only *mildly* misleading title, I'll go ahead and state that CtW could *potentially* work if it wasn't for the insanely scummy DLC and ludicrously stupid touchscreen garbage the devs crowbarred in. Normally, I'd ramble on about various features and all that, but let's keep it simple here. Pros vs cons. Pros: -The graphics are nice. Nowhere near the level of sheer beauty that is Okami or Wind Waker, but they do the job. -Sound is... well, it does what it needs to do. It's not bad, at least. -It's got dwarves in it. Bearded ones with axes and armour and spells and whatnots. So that's a plus. -Gameplay is fine, at least on a concept-level. It would (or at least could) be great if it wasn't for the soon-to-be-listed cons... Cons: -The controls. Oh the freakin' CONTROLS!! See, when I wrote the title for this review, *this* is what I was referring to. The motherbleeping controls! You have extremely little control over anything aside from where to place what block/item/other deployable entity. You can control individual dwarves, but NOT groups of them at the same time. And even controlling one li'l dude/dudette is clunky because of the obvious touchscreen compatibility trash. (Honestly, devs. Do you really think anyone in the entire UNIVERSE plays touchscreen games on a PC?!) -Despite having a fun gameplay concept, the execution is dull as ditchwater and twice as repetetive. -The story is- wait, what story? Is there even a story in this game? Okay, not all games need stories and some are insanely fun without one (e.g. Crimsonland), but this game CLAIMS to have a story campaign. But it's a lie. Just like the next thing... -The motherbleeping "multiplayer". I don't even have words for how despicable it is to sell something THAT integral as DLC. It's the kind of thing that should warrant keelhauling. Seriously. -The combat is a bleeping clusterbleep and nothing but. -So many things I can't list 'cause of the review limitations on GOG.

Polished & fun for the casual game it is

It reminds me of that old game "Lemmings" with a nice balance of survival, tower defence, exploration and rpg elements. You send your dwarves to explore and collect resources on a map while fending off increasingly tougher monster raids each night in the fortress you craft for them. The goal is to open a portal to the next world. You also specialise them for their chores, level them up and equip them with items you can craft. Unlike more involved games of similar genres this little gem is simple to learn, nice to look at, and fun. My overall game experience was enjoyable.
