Amazing atmosphere! make me feel uncomfortable the whole times (because I'm scare of horror game and movie) They did an amazing job with this game.
I love Jesse as a character. she is so calm and so brave. really help me go through this game.
If you don't like hard game or scare of a horror game like me, this game let you adjust the damage that you do to enemies and the damage that you received from the enemies, you can be immortal and one-shot every enemy in the game.
If you own a raytracing-capable video card this game is a must buy. Apart from intruiging history, mistery and characters, light-play and reflections are absolutly stunning. I was starring for couple of minutes on how light refletcts from wall wood panels or a lether armchair. Visuals in this game are a masterpiece.
Pros:
- visuals
- asthetics of the bureo of the 60'
- mistery & history
- physics of trowing desks
- atmosphere
- ashtray maze
Cons:
- little bit dissapointing "final boss"
For the most part I've been enjoying this game. The combat is fun, and the progression of abilities makes the game feel rewarding. The "world" (building?) is unique and interesting, with a mysterious enemy and an intriguing...story?
Those are the pros. On of the cons is that the controls don't always necessarily work the way I want them to. You have to use ability points to unlock the ability that lets you send back grenades/rockets to your enemy, but Jesse will often pull rocks out of the ground (which she only does when there are no launchable objects nearby) rather than grab the rocket that's right in front of my face. Which makes me feel like I wasted ability points on a skill that only works 50% of the time.
The story is interesting, but not very coherent. This was obviously the designers' intention, so this has more to do with my taste than anything else. I've been playing every day for a week now and I'm still waiting for all the disjointed pieces of the story to come together. I'm starting to think that it never will, and the entire game is meant to feel like a weird fever dream, which makes sense for a game as dark and creepy as this one. Again, this is a matter of taste. If narrative isn't super important to you, you probably won't mind this aspect.
My only other complaint is that, if you want to make a game challenging, I'm all for that, but the aspects that make the game challenging can sometimes become tedious (enemies respawn in every room after a relatively short time, and it's always the same enemies, and you often have to return to areas you've already been, so you have to fight the same enemies each time.), or they feel cheap. And this, again, wouldn't bother so much if the loading screen didn't take so damn long every time you die. Still, they give you an option in the menu to make the game a little more bearable if you get sick of dying.
This game is challenging, creepy, and unique. It's worth a play if you like 3rd person shooters.
Overall, Control shines most brightly when it capitalizes on using its visuals and gameplay to create this "David Lynch meets Matrix" experience.
If that sounds interesting to you, then you'll be in for a good time.
The core controls are pretty much in-line with what you expect from a 3rd person shooter. The movement can be floaty / off at times, but the enemy AI is usually pretty lenient so that it doesn't matter. Standing still is definitely not recommended. This isn't a cover based shooter.
Visually gorgeous, the game features a variety of enemies and environments. The boss fights are on the disappointing end of the scale, but the mini-bosses tend to be a good combination of main enemy and trash mob spawn.
A lot of ability functionality is locked behind keystone progression tree perks and come too late in the game. Something like energy regenerating while you hold an object or being able to launch multiple objects at once all should come much earlier than they do.
The loot/gear acquisition/progression is also one big RNG grindfest. Think of the worst lootboxes out there, and that's what the core progression pretty much boils down to. The silver lining here is that there isn't any monetization of the RNG.
Overall, the progression doesn't seem thought through.
But it's nothing that a bit of manual course correction either via save-file editing or CheatEngine won't fix.
The DLC content is alright. The maps reuse some existing structures from the base game, but nothing terribly major. The collectibles and writing are all pretty good, and the voice acting is solid from everyone. The Alan Wake DLC is "only" ok if you, like me, haven't played any Alan Wake games before, since I'm sure all the clever tie-ins would greatly enhance the experience. The Foundation DLC seems short and underdeveloped compared to the base game, but still worth playing through at least once.
Overall, I'm glad to have played it. Maybe wait for a sale to get it though.
I usually dont play 3rd person shooters but this one is a expetion to the book, and a good one non the less.
great gameplay in general
the performance is not the greates, but it is understadable as everything is destrutible.
