DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
One of the best games I have played, the story is good, the gameplay is perfect. I love the combat and the bosses, it has a balanced difficulty curve. If you like 3-rd person action games, this should be a must try.
I did not encounter any bugs ot crashes, the game is polished and frustration free.
I wish i could give more that 5 starts :)
Just saw it here - on sale - and bought it immediately :D!
an hour in and everything works like a charm (1060, i5 6500 - used gxperience optimizing, which does exactly what most people wrote a few years back to optimize settings, automatic render resolution at 1600x900 which you don´t find in the in-game settings - everything else is then medium+high).
Really wasn´t sure which to use, kbm or controller - but since it´s a lot of running i tried controller with simple aim assist and sticky (the latter i might switch off) - which seem to work fine - well, it´s from a studio that created max payne!
I actually took my time to read the letters and watch the tapes: very compelling weirdness.
If you just want a shooter, you are probably better off with doom ;) - but the immersion, the atmosphere and the controls, all of it really works fine for me.
10$ well spent - THX GOG
I hesitated to play this game for a long time due to hearing a lot about it being either buggy, performing horribly, or both. I can now confidently say that neither of these is the case at all.
Pros:
-Combat feels great, all abilities and weapons have the right amount of impact and fluidity for their design.
-Very compelling story, amplified by its DLCs included. Can't write too much without spoiling it, but it blows
most current games out of the water. If you like the X Files you will probably love it.
-Good customization, once you are a bit into the game, you can choose which weapon types you want to actively use, and then mod those to further suit your preference.
-Collectables and lore! So many collectables, and all of them add to the worldbuilding, lore, and overall story development. This may be a downside if you do not like searching every corner and secret area in a game though.
-Intense bosses, most are optional (may be a con for you, searching all parts of the game), none are too easy. Not much can be said without spoilers, but be warned of difficulty spikes.
Cons:
-Somewhat system-heavy, although I personally haven't noticed intense lag or freezing, it does take up a lot of processing power even on medium-low settings.
Overall, this game is absolutely worth it, mainly for the story and badass gameplay. Consider avoiding if playing with old hardware, or if you aren't keen on extreme difficulty spikes.
The worst fate for a game is to be mediocre and unremarkable - this game suffers *none* of that. It has some of the highest highs of atmospheric environment design, storytelling and graphical prowess - but also some of the most frustrating troughs of confusing level design, bloated inventory management and other mechanics clearly designed to pad runtime instead of excite players or further gameplay.
Like did we *really* need to loot % increases to our stats on every corner of the map from chests whose opening animation straight up looks like the game *used to* be designed around lootboxes and microtransactions, but then somebody sprayed the publisher's face with water and yanked that shit out of the game? And we got stuck with a boring, pointless system that encourages you to find the strongest stuff that works *for you* and just stick to the same loadout the entire game, deconstructing mods for extra currency every 5 minutes. Endgame content that's basically MMO grindquests but with more time constraint and less fun, oh and vastly higher difficulty when the game already struggles with more challenging encounters getting unfair fast.
And yet, I f****ing love it. The completely bats**t insane Sam Lake(TM) story, the voice acting, the stellar graphics (I forgot the game came out 5 years ago! it looks absolutely glorious with settings maxed and no RTX), the unadulterated smoothness of combat (despite getting repetitive sometimes, esp. if you only run the broken strats) make for a game which I sometimes hate, but I can't stop myself from loving. Unique, unashamedly Remedy, immersive-to-a-fault SCP Foundation Simulator. Quantum Break walked so that Control could run.
The story, the atmosphere and the lore are awesome. I really love the visuals even if labials sync in french are bad. But the gameplay is from another era. I've got the impression of playing an old game older than PS3 generation. The map is unclear and most of time i've been running eveywhere to find what i must do. Combats are boring and not very maniable and platforms sessions are passable. Anyway the game is impressive for the immersion. If the gameplay wouldn't be so dated i'd rate this game 5 stars easily.
