Killed by the Enemy Design

This was the most disappointing game i have played in awhile. Mostly because it could be a masterpiece. Visuals, lore, atmosphere, story and gun/ability gameplay are excellent. But suffers from the worse enemy design i have seen in a 3rd person game. The FoV is immensely cnarrow thus pretty much all the difficulty of the game come from attacks that come from your back. Adding to this is the extreme effect of the game, which although impressive, make being able to see what is going on incredibly difficult making it even more of a challenge to see attack coming from behind. The worse offender are the bosses. Every single boss i fought was incredibly easy and very exploitable. All the difficulty of the bosses comes ONLY from the add spam during the boss fight exactly because of the backstabbing. To that you have to add the constant add spam at places you have already been and the very bad unnecessary backtracking when you die from the bad checkpoint placement. I guess they went for the Souls games formula but it is not well implemented. In Souls games you, almost, always die feeling its your fault. Here you get the feeling that you are just unlucky. What made me quite the game eventually (17 hours in), was a boss fight that actually had so many rendering effect that crashed the game every time the boss attacked. lowering details made things better but it still crashed randomly about 2/3 of the boss fight. It is a real shame. This was the first Remedy game i ever played. It had potential. But with the bad enemy design and the technical issues....it will probably be the last.

Not much better than Quantum Break - game still is a technical mess

First of all let me say that I really adore the old Max Payne games and Alan Wake. Fantastic games that are true classics nowadays. But I think that with Quantum Break, Remedy Remedy lost its inspiration. Control is more like Quantum Break, no so much like the other games mentioned before. The game is a technical disaster (like Quantum Break was in 2016!), the graphics are just mediocre, the loading times are MUCH TOO LONG even with SDD (!) and after playing some time I got annoying texture popups all the time (GTX 1660 TI). The gameplay itself is okay at first but gets boring very fast, the difficulty level is rather high (gets very annoying when you have to walk to the boss several times) and who thought that it would be a good idea to read boring text files all the time that interrupt gameplay? Hated that back then in Quantum Break as well. Text files are not a good way to deliver story in a fast paced ACTION GAME (!). Max Payne and Alan Wake only had TV shows and radio shows, that was fine. I can´t really recommend this game. It´s just overrated and still a technical mess.

A terrible disappointment

I love Remedy games. Max Payne and Alan Wake are among my ver favorite games ever made. I truly can not understand how Remedy could have made a game this bad. The story is boring as hell - the game managed to make the supernatural mundane and tedious. The Fedaral Bureau of Control, the axis the whole thing turns around, treats what should be mysterious and bizarre like traffic violations. The whole game is set within one huge office building. Sure, it's a "magic", shifting, supernatural office building, but it's still an office building. Even if the walls shift, in the end it's a repetitive, boring place. The protagonist is one of the worst I ever encountered. She neve reacts to anything. Has the same passive, blank expression and the same boring, bland delivery all the time. Found a dead body a man who just commited suicide? Zero reaction. Found a magic gun next to him and is shooting people in the head within five minutes? Sure, fine, zero reaction. Is made a director of the FBC by people she has never met during an invasion from another dimension? Zero reaction. A piece of carboard would make for a more interesting protagonist. The gameplay is mediocre at best. You only have one gun. It can change modes to work like a shotgun, or a pistol or a machine gun, but it always looks and feel pretty much the same, and is just about the least satisfying gun I ever shot in any game. Always feels like a peashooter. You also have to craft enchancements for it, because every game has to have crafting now, even if it is just boring clicking on meaningless icons untill they make a new icon. You get super powers, but even those feel somehow lacking. The encounters are extremely repetitive and you can't even save the game at will, only at checkpoints, which I hate. There's a ton of backtracking too, because nothing says fun like running through the same corridors again and again. I could not even force myself to finish the game. It feels too much like a chore.
