Description
Conarium is a chilling Lovecraftian game that follows the gripping story of four scientists and their endeavour to challenge what we normally consider to be the "absolute" limits of nature. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's novella At the Mountains of Madness, but largely set after the original story.

You, as Frank Gilman, open your eyes inside a room filled with strange, pulsating noises. Patterns of lights executing a Danse Macabre on the walls is presented by a queer device on the table. Having recalled nothing other than that you’re in Upuaut, an Antarctic base located near the South Pole, you find the place deserted and have a distinct feeling of something being terribly wrong. Somehow knowing that your memories cannot guide you enforces a strange feeling of vulnerability, a familiar yet alien sensation of being a part of a peculiar whole... Soon you will discover that having used the device during the expedition, you have died but then returned subtly changed, speaking of strange memories and of strange places. You have lost something important or gained something sinister...

Explore the Antarctic base, as well as dreams and visions. Study clues and unlock secrets, whilst avoiding macabre beings at all cost.

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Conarium aims to bring cutting-edge visuals for a more immersive storytelling and gaming experience.
  • A deep and suspenseful homage to H P Lovecraft with many secrets and Easter eggs.
  • Ominous but wonderful graphics created using the Unreal 4 engine.
  • Multiple endings.
  • A haunting and atmospheric soundtrack.

Conarium

Hi, Conarium is a FPP (First Person Perspective) exploring a snowy antarctic empty base, stuck alone you quietly unravel what has happened to the expedition, excellent graphics, scary, elevators, underground realm. Examine fully rotate items, item to item functionality. Has a magnify icon on screen and a separate fullscreen text display by a click. The journal + notes + secrets, these are separate and pages stack. Sometimes activating ex: stuck door requires several clicks to open adding to immersion. Save slots to save anytime. Some objects need other items throughout to work and sadly no self notes to make or notes zooming in this version, a mod may be available, but the torch shines at will on your documents, rather splendid. High resolutions even upto 2k 4k is seen available, configurable keys like movements, toggle crouch, journal, shift to run, notes, torch, inventory. Has full audio sliders to enhance your desired experience from 0-100%, excellent eerie sound effects, music, ambient audio, player voice, audio voice tapes. Good luck, something sinister has overrun the base and seems contagious.

Brilliant atmosphere

I loved this game, the atmosphere, graphics and general weirdness were top-class. My only criticism is that it was way too short. Hope to see more of these types of games in the future.

Amazing

I felt like Randolph Carter, going to strange lands and states of being to acquire knowledge and elevation. The "feel" of this game is that of living a Lovecraft story. Amazing work Devs - you should be truly proud of this ! Now onto Transient !

Overall = 7/10

A functional horror themed adventure game with nothing particularly wrong with it, but nothing really stands out as great about it either. The voice acting’s a bit weak and the graphics and gameplay are quite basic, but the atmosphere is unsettling and unnerving and the plot and subject matter are interesting enough. The pacing’s quite slow and with no hint system can grind to a halt, but there’s some very good imagery and scenes. The chase scene felt unnecessary and did spoil the game a bit and the menu interface and pop ups are amateurish, but it’s got a good length and challenge to it and overall I enjoyed it.

All Flash, No Substance

From the developers of the not-so-impressive Darkness Within games comes yet another not-so-impressive game called Conarium. Although it's a huge improvement in terms of aesthetics, the game itself is quite boring. As a Lovecraftian fan who enjoys playing other Lovecraftian games, I was expecting Conarium to be an immersive experience but it did not deliver. The beautiful graphics is a camouflage for hiding its shallow gameplay experience. No, I did not expect it to be an action game but I did not expect to be reading boring journals and hearing people talk so slow like they're high on something. I don't think the Şamlı brothers know exactly what they want to achieve with Conarium in terms of game design. It's like they can't decide if they want to make a horror game, an exploration game or a puzzle game. It's all over the place! The only good thing I like about Conarium is the soundtrack and the level design. Both are beautifully crafted in their own right but the game itself is not interesting at all. They keep jumping from one character to another (I lost track of who I was in the game) and the storytelling is poor. Would I recommend it? Not really. If you want to see what Unreal Engine 4 has to offer, give it a go but if you're expecting a deep immersive Lovecraftian experience, I'd say skip it. Get Call of Cthulhu 2018, Dark Corners of The Earth, or Prisoner of Ice instead. Pros: + Beautiful graphics + Great soundtrack Cons: - People talk like snails - Not Lovecraftian enough - Very boring experience - Too many journals to read
