Description
Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin is the follow up to the ground breaking game Combat Mission Beyond Overlord.  With Barbarossa to Berlin we move to the Eastern Front. Watch as your T34s roll across the steppes of Central Russia or fight your way building to building in the Battle of Stalingrad. It simulates battles on the Eastern Front from German invasion of Russia with Operation Barbarossa in June of 1941 until the final days of the war in Berlin May 1945. Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin allows the player to lead the soldiers of seven nationalities (German, Soviet, Finnish, Hungarian, Romanian, Italian and Polish) into battle, using historical Tables of Equipment and Organization (TO&E), surroundings, and combat results.

Combat is simulated in turns using science and behavioral logic, not “gamey” conventions such as hit points, armor ratings, tables of resolution, or other overly simplistic concepts.  The pioneering “WeGo” gameplay system helps avoid many of the realism problems of other games by requiring both players to submit their orders and having them carried out simultaneously.  The resulting 60 second replayable “movie” can be viewed from any angle and perspective before moving onto the next turn.
Play stand alone battles, connected battles, or “Quick Battles” created on-the-fly.  The full featured Editor allows you to create your own battles.  A large amount of community generated battles and Mods are available for free download.  In addition to the very challenging single player mode, two people can play on one computer, TCP/IP network connection, or via PBEM.

Apply common sense and intuition and don’t expect "gamey" tactics to work - no matter how successful they were in other games. You will be forced to plan ahead, use timing, suppression fire, feints and flanking attacks to survive, let alone to win. When planning your moves, think about what would work in the real world, not what would work in other games.

One of the best wargames

Combat Missions are great tactical wargames that were way ahead of their time when they came out and have also aged really well. They are more like proper combat simulators than typical RTS Company of Heroes, Men of War) or turn-based strategy games (Panzer General, Panzer Corps): Real military tactics work great and are required due to the highly authentic gameplay. The turn based we-go system makes battles of any size easy to manage, although it typically takes several minutes of real time to plan one minute of game time. The bigger the scenario, the more time it takes. Some patience is definitely required. The controls will take a while to learn and remembering some hotkeys will help a lot, but after that's done you are left with a very functional control system that makes a very deep game relatively easy to manage. Due to the highly realistic nature of the game, the gameplay itself is very easy and intuitive to learn if you are at all familiar with real WW2 tactics. Reading the manual is highly recommended. Barbarossa to Berlin is massive game that covers the war on the entire Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945. Despite the huge scope the great attention to details is obvious. The historical weapons, units and armour are well researched and modeled. The graphics of the game weren't the greatest even when the game came out but they are clear and haven't aged too badly. They definitely serve their purpose. Even today very few games (mainly the newer Combat Mission titles and Graviteam games) can compare to the old Combat Missions and in some areas the old games still surpass them. All the combat mission titles are worth playing to anyone interested in realistic tactical games and Barbarossa to Berlin is probably the best of the three.

The King is here! Finally

When I saw it on GoG I could not believe it. I am the fan of Combat Mission Series and I own few of them including the new ones. After all that years I can tell you that no other Combat mission game can beat Barbarossa to Berlin, this is the best in the series. Pros: - The whole Eastern Front Campaign ranging from 1941 to 1945 including all 3 fronts - Hundreds of units to choose from with great level of detail - Russian, Polish, German, Hungarian (and more) armies included with voices and uniforms! - Hotseat or TCP/IP multiplayer, with the best duel system ever created Cons: - Dated graphics. Still good for it's time and technology but had some problems on non-nvidia cards - Pace of the game is slow larger battles require time to play (but you can save both single and multiplayer) - Artillery support could have been done better but it is there after all - Lack of formation based unit purchasing. You can only purchase single vehicles or platoons Anyway if you are looking for WW2 battle simulator it is a must have. Thank you GoG and congratulations!

One of the best turn based war games

If you like building your own battle groups, this is the game for you. If you like testing your skill in campaign and solo missions, this is the game for you. If you like commanding a large variety of historically accurate units, this is the game for you. Anyway, don't be distracted by the dated visuals. It does not detract from the important aspects of the game experience in any way. I have spent hundreds of hours playing this years ago and am happy to find it on GOG again now. 6/5

Outstanding

Extremely detailed, historical ww2 strategy game.It covers the entirety of the east front when it comes to units, countries, maps.Huge plus for me that you can play hotseat if you want. If this game was released today ,it would cost about 500-600 euros along with the DLC's that would come with it.It is insane that you can have it at that price. If you like deep thinking tactical WW2 game, slow paced and not a clickfest this game is for you. The same goes for the other two games of the series.

Best tactical wargame ever created

When we talk about the old "Combat Mission" ("CMx1") serie, we´re talking about the best 3D tactical games that ever exist on the market. They´re old, yes!, but still they´re the best, especially this "CMBB". As a tactical wargame, there´s nothing like this (yes, forget "Total War" serie: they´re games for children!). It´s impressive the amount of hours of enjoyment that such a game contains! Once you learn the rules (quite big book), and assimilate them, you see infinite tactical possibilities it has. For me, it´s one of the most fascinating, serious tactical wargame ever created. It´s like having a big table at home, a huge, realistic mockup full of miniatures. The new "Combat Mission" ("CMx2") serie (full of annoying DLCs!) are more "simulators" than "games" and, therefore, I don't enjoy them as much. Instead, the old "CMx1" are full of scenarios, different units, game modes, without the need for those Battlefront´s annoying shit "DLCs". For me, "CMx1" serie ("CMBO", "CMBB", and "CMAK") feel complete, and they´re magnificent games. The A.I. is good only in defensive positions (otherwise, it´s very bad). The good thing is that there´s possibility of playing with other people via e-Mail, or by TCP / IP connection (even there´s a "hotseat" mode!). As I said, "CMx1" is an essential, awesome game if you enjoy real tactical wargames, even today. And at this price tag, it's a bargain! Moreover, these "GOG"´s versions run smoothly on modern PCs so... What´re you waiting for??!!
