Old but awesome
One of the greatest helicopter sims of all time, I still got the original box, if you don't mind the outdated graphics you can't go wrong.

Does it even run?
Absolute nonsense. It's like the designers quit halfway through development.

Great gameplay but not much else.
This is my first helicoptor sim and I was both amazed and disappointed all at the same time. I'll start with the good. The flight physics are extremely challenging which for me is a good thing. I happen to be a big fan of realistic flight simulators and this one fills that niche nicely. The ability to change the dynamics of the flight physics is also a huge plus. It allows you to cut your teeth without sacrificing gameplay and you can even change the physics "on the fly." By leaving the campaign you can change the realism settings then jump right back in as your skills evolve. The many different mission types and multiple landscapes and weather conditions really add some variety during your flight. Stay awake flying at low altitude or you could find the ground rushing up at you faster than you'd like. The cockpit controls take a lot of getting used to and many times I found myself wishing for a quick-key reference guide which the manual does NOT come with. Once I had the controls figured out though it was smooth sailing, er flying. Best of all is the ability to scan the horizon using the POV hat on your joystick. You can look up, down at your instrument panel and out all of the windows of the cockpit. The game also lets you change the multifunction displays and has a whole host of options for each one. While playing the game you really do feel like you are flying a real combat helicoptor given the incredible attention to detail the developers put into the cockpit design. Both seat positions are selectable so you play as the pilot or the gunner or switch between them while playing. Playing the game is a lot of fun and the enemies will fire at you enough to keep you on your toes but not so much that there is no hope of survival. Pick your targets carefully and let your wingman do the rest. Your squadron mates are very good shots and very aggresive unlike most flight sims. When the bullets start flying they won't wait for orders they'll attack the first thing they can see. Run and gun players will want to look elsewhere, each battle must be carefully planned and tactics are a must. Knowing how to use the terrain is essential to success so make sure you have something handy to hide behind before you enter battle. Best of all you can use actual helicoptor combat tactics like the "Bob-up" maneuver. If you like to think, this is the game for you. The visuals with the installed mods are impressive and the aircraft are very realistic looking. The screen is clean and there is almost no lag whatsoever. The ground, however, lacks detail and seems perfectly smooth with almost no textures whatsoever. The trees also leave much to be desired and are pretty horrible looking even up close. Unfortunately, the gripes don't stop there. The game's biggest let down is it's lack of over arching storyline and the inconsistency of the squadrons. Unlike most flight sims which focus on a single squadron this one lets you take command of a host of available squadrons but not all at once and you can't keep the squadron you pick. Every time you pick a mission you have to constantly keep picking the squadron you want over and over and over again IF the squadron is available which most of the time, it isn't. That means you are stuck picking a squadron you aren't familiar with and your helicoptor of choice (in my case the AH-64D Longbow Apache) is oftentimes not available. Last but not least are the horrible voices and incredibly annoying call-outs over the audio. The voices were obviously done as an afterthought and no human actors were used and it shows. There is no banter, no realistic orders or mission updates guiding you along the course of your mission and worst of all most of the call-outs you do recieve are completly useless. Squadrons and bases from all over the mission map will ask you for assistence most of the time when you are way out of range. If that isn't bad enough there are no characters, none, not even generic nameless ones. Sure the nicknames that are used are authentic but the same voice calls out each time with little to no variation. The worst part about the voices is that they are patched together and no effort was made to hide that. Instead of feeling like you are listening to squadron mates or flight control personnel you are simply listening to a computer. This gives the game a very sterile, very cold feeling. I'm always shutting all the voices off and flying in silence which by itself can be very tedious especially on long flights. In conclusion the game had terrific promise out of the box but replayability suffers due to the plain graphics, terrible audio and complete lack of any storyline whatsoever. I was really looking forward to playing this game after all the high praise I read but in the end I was really disappointed. Gameplay really is amazing though and I do keep coming back just for that reason. I always love a challenge and the flight physicis of this game offer that in spades. The actual battle scenarios are really top notch and the mission variety is excellent. The enemies are smart and unpredictable and you really have to use all your resources if you want to be succesful. I can forgive the graphics but the lack of story, characters of even the simplest design and horrific audio have made me glad I only paid $6 for this game. By comparision to other flight simulators of the era, like F-16 Multi-Role Fighter and its succesors these offenses are unforgivable.

I was nice long time ago
So this sim was good when it came out, and also till few years was good when some mod makers supported it. But thanks to some toxic community, the mod makers left and nothing works real now with this sim. So don't WAST YOUR MONEY AND TIME on this, now total garbage thing.
