What a horrible night to have a curse!

Someone should have warned the Covenant children: “Never read aloud strange rituals.” Little did they know that their childish game would unleash unspeakable horrors upon the unsuspecting world. Now, many years later, Jeremiah Covenant, the last sane sibling, lies on his deathbed knowing his fragile existence is the only thing restraining the curse. His only hope is Patrick Galloway, a fellow soldier from the Great War and a specialist in abolishing evil abominations.

Welcome to Clive Barker’s Undying, a horrifying FPS romp of curses, strange, mad creatures, and family dysfunction gone terribly wrong. Step into the shoes of Patrick Galloway as you attempt to banish the evil using your arcane magic and the ever-dependable six shooter of metal grace. Pray to whatever god you believe in because this journey may end up costing your soul. First person shooter meets the contemporary master of horror fiction, don't miss it!

Better than Jericho...I guess

I remember this game getting decent reviews back in the day so I thought I'd check it out here for October as it seemed like a good choice for a spooky game...I was wrong. It's way too whacky and poorly designed. Honestly I wasn't really enjoying it that much before that, I'm not a fan of the leaping enemies in this game whatsoever, their hitboxes are weird and their leaps sometimes hit me when they seem like they shouldn't have and the the monks who are a complete and total joke...the zombies don't seem to be able to be killed so I just run past them...and that's literally all the enemies I've seen in several hours of gameplay...really lacking in enemy variety and all the 'horror' stuff I've seen just falls flat, it's lacking the visual design for my brain to say horror...it all just seems silly and whacky to me. The family members are some of the worst offenders for this. There's also an absolutely insane amount of backtracking in levels that are too large and empty with respawning enemies, with no in-game map, and a slow running speed. These all add up to a game that is a chore to play. I did like that the voice acting made an attempt to capture the setting as accurately as they did. Also once I got to a certain point in the game it just crashes constantly without fail every 15 minutes or so and I can't deal with that.

No chiffhanger ending here

Difficult at the begining, once powers unlocked you can become the one making things difficult for the monsters.

Enemies are not fun to fight

The enemies are not fun to fight in this FPS and the weapons lack punching power. Calling this a horror game is misleading, it's a shooter. The atmosphere is well done for an early 2000's game. There is 0 exploration, it's linear and level design is bland (empty rooms and corridors). I have played a lot of FPS games but this one is overrated in my book, do not trust the ratings.

Archaic, uninspired and ugly

This game might have been somewhat acceptable back in 2001 (if we even ignore the fact that it was released the same year as actual Serious Sam: First Encounter, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Halo: Combat Evolved) but it simply does not hold at all against its contemporaries and much less as a classic. Archaic: The shooting mechanics are weak, weapons lack the impact or power that these should convey neither their effect is such against the enemies you encounter. Cheapness has been conflated for challenge with enemies such as the "Howlers" that have the annoying tendency to respawn continuously in certain areas and have the tendency to appear and attack from behind after the player has already traverse an area that was clear of enemies. The skeletons are also an enemy that despite their undead nature move and have a laser sight accuracy to hit the player even if dodging maneuvers are executed and the large amount of damage both these enemies cause is compounded by the fact that getting hit causes the screen to stagger leaving the player looking to the floor or ceiling allowing the enemy to get another free hit before the player can recover to retaliate. Uninspired: Using the "Clive Barker" name as a marketing ploy to confer some sort of validity to the horror aspect of the game, I cannot over emphasize how disappointed I am at the "horror" the game has to offer: absolutely campy, comic book level attempts at being scary that end up failing at conferring any sense of tension or uneasiness, if anything it only succeeds at causing annoyance, boredom and even unintentional humor. (Am I supposed to be scared of a Edgar Alan Poe redhead looking ghost that flies through the air with his legs in a scooter riding squat pose?) Ugly: Boring and bland level designs, everything feels barren, flat and lifeless, there is no sense of flow or direction. Character models with terrible animations and voice acting compound just how inadequate and outdated is this title.
