What a horrible night to have a curse!

Someone should have warned the Covenant children: “Never read aloud strange rituals.” Little did they know that their childish game would unleash unspeakable horrors upon the unsuspecting world. Now, many years later, Jeremiah Covenant, the last sane sibling, lies on his deathbed knowing his fragile existence is the only thing restraining the curse. His only hope is Patrick Galloway, a fellow soldier from the Great War and a specialist in abolishing evil abominations.

Welcome to Clive Barker’s Undying, a horrifying FPS romp of curses, strange, mad creatures, and family dysfunction gone terribly wrong. Step into the shoes of Patrick Galloway as you attempt to banish the evil using your arcane magic and the ever-dependable six shooter of metal grace. Pray to whatever god you believe in because this journey may end up costing your soul. First person shooter meets the contemporary master of horror fiction, don't miss it!

3 Stars Worth of Fun

So this game has a fun, original horror themed design with a nice variety of weapons and many interesting magic spells to use in the fights. However, not every spell is equally useful. Some appear to be broken as upgrading them seems to do nothing. The boss fights are inventive although some of the bosses' weaknesses are kind of tough to find. The game has somewhat bland graphics, but the level design is really interesting in places, especially the way water behaves in some areas. Also has some genuine mind-fuck or scary moments. If you like FPS's to start with, consider this a 4-star cause it really isn't weak as FPS's go.

The original horror FPS

Before F.E.A.R., Undying was pretty much the benchmark of successful fusion of FPS and horror. Clive Barker helped shaped the game's plot and background that is somewhat inspired by Lovecraftian horror and together with Dreamworks Interactive's technical prowess at providing a tight and engaging gameplay experience, the final product is downright one of the best first person shooters ever made. One thing I liked about the gameplay is the usage of both conventional and magic weapons simultaneously, which I find lacking in modern shooters that implement both weapon types like the Bioshock series where you fire them separately. The Unreal Engine 1 looks terrible by today's standards though, and unfortunately due to the poor sales when it was released back then, there isn't actually a fanbase devoted to provide a HD mod or warrant a sequel. Something that you might consider if the graphics are a turn off.

After nearly 15 years...still creepy

Replaying this nightmarish game after nearly 15 years and its still good! Sure did freaked me out before in my old computer and now so much better playing on newer pc's. This game is a lot creepier than Clive Barker's JERICHO. There's just something disturbing about this whole family/cult/lovecraftian theme going on. I couldn't finish the game before when I was younger - now I plan to end this mystery right here right now! Playing on Nightmare Difficulty and loving it!! Yer most powerful weapon in this game - the QUICKSAVE/LOAD key lol. Play it!! - with headphones :)

Please Fix

Despite having system specs that far exceed the minimum, and being optimized by GOG, I am never able to get this thing running properly on my Windows 10 64 bit system. Horrible framerates and a headache-inducing resolution (using a widescreen patch makes the game unbearably slow) make this possibly great game unplayable. I have asked for help on the forums on more than one occasion and it was as useful as talking to a wall. It could just be me and my horrible luck with most Unreal Engine games (the only Unreal game i was able to run was Deus Ex, only because i have modded it to death so it could be playable, this unfortunately has no mods that fixes these issues). But with what I have experienced, i just cannot recommend this at all. Sorry.

Does Not Run on Windows 10

Even with endless tweaking, still cannot get the game to run. Compatibility settings, runtime packages, etc. GOG needs to take a bit more initiative and be more responsive about non-working games that are sold to customers, rather than taking a page out of Steam's book and hiding behind a wall if inaccessibility.
