A love letter to the JRPGs of old
I own well in excess of 3000 games, most of them on gog or physical format. I love games and I've played them for over 35 years with passion. This might well be the best game I've ever played. At the very least the best game I've played in the last 15-20 years. Mind blowingly good writing, sublime soundtrack, astonishing art direction and the gameplay... I could spend all day discussing how good it is. It is a slap in the face to Square Enix, who have been trying to get the JRPG formula modernised for decades now and, while they have produced plenty of decent or even great titles, they've not managed to touch the heights of the PS1 era. Well this game just shows how turn based final fantasy-esque combat should have evolved and reaches and perhaps surpases those heights. Exploring the world, with an overworld and traversing mechanics not too different from old PS1 era final fantasy games, the simple yet engaging side quests, some with very interesting story development, others you can do but don't have to, it's all a huge love letter to those games of old albeit with a beautiful french touch. Can't recommend enough if you like JRPGs
