CivCity: Rome, an innovative city builder inspired by the world of Sid Meiers Civilization, and created by a collaboration between Firefly Studios and Firaxis Games, invites players to shift focus from building a multi-city empire and zoom-in on the great cities of the Roman Empire, culminating in Rome itself! Through dozens of missions, each offering an array of interesting decisions, players will be charged with building, nurturing and managing one of these great cities as they endeavour to lead the Roman Empire from its humble beginnings to its mighty apogee. Features players have enjoyed in the Civilization series, like research, city happiness, production and culture, can now be managed actively in the wonderfully immersive world of CivCity: Rome.
Look inside the buildings - For the first time in a city builder you can look inside the Villas, the forums, and even the Roman baths! Discover, in much greater detail, how Romans went about their daily lives.
Civilize your city - More than 70 technologies can be developed over time to give your city a strategic advantage. Use the rich research tree to improve many aspects of your city and its relation to the wider empire.
Follow the life of a Roman family - Do they thrive and prosper from humble hut to noble palace as they move through the generations or not? Well, thats your call!
Ease of play - Driven purely by building placement and strong visual feedback, the game lets you create your own living community simply by choosing and placing the wide variety of buildings.
Real Romans - An intriguing array of characters will interact with you.
CivCity: Rome is very modable. The number of workers per shop (temples), up to 6 in most cases. Fishing jetty is one exception, adding a worker just won't work. For User made scenarios go here; http://www.tomnobles.com/ccr/scenarios/

You'll probably notice a few other people complain about a bug where workers are idle. There are a few work-arounds to this problem (I find that re-launching the game and randomly futzing with the graphics settings helps about half the time) but the fixes are only temporary. This is a huge bummer, as the four hours I had in my first launch of the game were very fun and scratched a very deep city-building itch I've had for a while. If there's ever a patch of this game that permanently fixes the issue, I'll happily revise this review to be five stars.
After having read some of the other comments, foremost it might be interesting to mention the following:
# on a Win7-64bit-system I hadn't a single crash and I alt-tabbed a lot
# I did NOT experience the often mentioned bug of workers staying idle, I suspect that it isn't a bug at all but a game mechanic which is described in the game: every citizen/worker has a certain time for work, for sleep and for getting all those necesseties of life like meat, tunics, olive-oil etc., additionally they have only a certain range of operation.
I had fun with the game.
The military side of the game you can either call underdeveleoped or, as many city-builders probably prefer it, not very important. Most of the campaign-scenarios don't include any military. In those that do, it adds a certain urgency and spice but you won't have the fun of really marching around your legions in any tactical or strategical sense.
What impressed me: The way the game introduces you to the various features and buildings is really well done, smooth and fun. Additionally excellent descriptions and really helpful hints and tips can be found at every start of a scenario.
If you like those city-building games, I guess, you'll have fun, too. CivCity:Rome is well made.
If you want a casual forgiving city builder then this is the game for you. The game looks nice and runs smoothly. The voice acting is hilariously hammy and I love it. The citicens have funny comments every so often.
A negative could be that the maps feel a tad small so your cities "need" to be rather compact.
Don't expect anything deep. It's a very casual type of game so if you're fresh of one of the Sierra City Builders and looking for a new challenge then this is probably going to bore you.
I had fun and completed both campaign branches in roughly 20 hours.
If you're looking for a Rome simulator with a reasonable difficulty level without too much micro-managing, then this game is for you. It's just good clean fun, without a huge learning curve.
