A modern re-telling of the classic adventure game genre
It’s free so I recommend playing it if you enjoyed Stasis or usually like point-and-click adventure games. Having said that, I thought that Cayne was a bit of a downgrade compared to Stasis in almost every aspect except graphics quality. The world feels a bit more cartoony, the characters are charicatures most of the time and there are more moonlight logic puzzles with annoying backtracking. Still, an enjoyable experience but I'm not sure I'd given Stasis a chance if I had played Cayne first.
A free release that serves as prequel or sequel to Stasis, I mean, Samantha is a big part of Stasis and here she is, so is a prequel, but the ending implies it is a sequel, so I don't really know.
It plays just as any point and click adventure game, art and atmosphere are still great, can't say I found any trippy weird object placement like in Stasis. The mixing of the audio for conversations is better, and hey, now we got settings inside the game, that's an improvement.
Gameplay is more involved, this time the PDAs you find add not only flavour, but contain clues to solve the puzzles, no moon logic either, although crafting a lever from a metallic tube and a blade is kind of a stretch, also, there are a couple of texts I found had no function even tho they looked like they were important at first glance, one was binary code and the other some sort of incomplete cypher.
Story is still the usual megacorp human experimentation shennanigans, and you can see the plot twist coming from a mile away. Interesting how all the NPCs depicted fall in a range from assholes to psychos, unlike Stasis, where a few felt like regular people. But this is not a long game and all these characters have deep knowledge of the "research" so is understandable they all are depicted this way.
In the end, this is a great PaC, short, but free, so there are no excuses not to play it, I'd recommend playing Stasis first for story context, but is not necessary.
ENGLISH BELLOW:
ENGLISH VERSION:
Cayne is an excellent adventure point-and-click with the horror atmosphere, very light indeed.
The graphics are really good and the mechanics are simple but not so easy to learn. Are certain mechanics that are not explained and you have to keep up to find out. No tutorial here!
I confess I google the solution of 2 puzzles to beat the game, but some people on the forum say that it is possible to finish the game without it. The last puzzle I was not capable to decipher it so far and still.
This game is FREE!!! So, go on and with no fear!!! After you finish it and, if you liked it, go and get the STASIS. It is a "prequel" (sort of...on the same universe) but MUCH BETTER and with puzzles more intuitive. YOU GONNA LOVE IT
The game is starting off big, with an interesting tale. And it itself is really linear, despite randomly generated passwords. Too easy or too ridicoulous puzzles. Somehow it was more iritating than relaxing experience. And when I knew how to get rid of the enemy, the game did not allow me to do so, because the trigger was scripted.
See? This review was short, started off big and ended up being a complete chaos... Just like this game. :) End in the end, you know not much, just like in the ending of this game. :)
The atmosphere of this game is Shadowrun X Cringey Pregnant Lady simulator. I did play the entire thing. Spoilers ahead, but really, I will save you the bandwidth.
I don't understand what the appeal was here. The gameplay and mechanics were fine enough. There's really only four main areas. That's fine for a free game. The walking speed irritated me a bit towards the end. There's one area you have to run across several times, and it just takes ages.
Most of the dialogue renders you unable to control your character, don't like that. Most of it was unecessary and just a poor attempt at tugging heartstrings. It was nice in the beginning, and the voice acting is actually *really* good, but the lines were horribly written. The mc spends the entire game degrading her baby and then at the end says one good thing about it.
She hints that her baby daddy has a small baby-maker (family friendly review) but it's not like she was taken advantage of. It was a one night stand deal... I just feel like if that's supposed to be what she thinks, then it doesn't make sense to have had a baby in the first place?
The story was really boring and made no sense at all, and here is where the bulk of spoilers is at. She goes into a hospital for some procedure in the beginning, and you wake up in a cyberpunk dystopian lab area. You go through, and stumble on a corpse strung up on a crucifix in the air like a marionette. That was the last interesting thing I saw, and it added nothing more to the story. You go, you get the macguffins, you see the guy that knocked up mc and.... nothing.
He says "stay here" and you don't. From there, you get a few more macguffins, exit the facility, end of game. Not even a hint of a reason why you were there, or why they wanted your uterus. Then it zooms out all slow and plays sad music like you're supposed to reflect on your emotions, but there are none. I mean, I literally just finished the game and I had to look through my programs just to remember the name
