A modern re-telling of the classic adventure game genre
If you like old school point and click games like I do, this might be a game for you. The obscure alien landscapes is clearly inspired by eighties and nineties sci fi, with a pinch of Lovecraft. There is a bit too long loading time here and there leaving you with a black screen and the game mechanics are a bit clumsy at times, but they wont hurt the game experience too much, since this is simply a point and click game. The manuscript is okay, but I would like a little bit more character development to get into the role of Hadley a little bit more while playing. For a free prequel game this is great, but it feels like this game is made to get more people buying Stasis. This game is almost worth 4 stars and without the small flaws I would definately rate this higher! The atmosphere is the best thing with this game and if you need a fun short point and click game try it! Its almost great ;)
I like adventure point-n-clicks, not into horror games, but was interested in the story of this game. It was short, very disturbing.. good graphics, though. It's free now, so very worth to check it out. I had to used guides for clues what to do next )))4 stars for the game is so short
This is a game that really wants to be a movie : a long intro for the credits, a short game clip, the game title, ... and then finally : the game.
The game however, starts with another movie sequence with nothing to do for the player.
The few actions that are required of the player during the rest of the game are sadly mostly illogical.
There's also an attempt at humor ... but I don't think ik is very successful.
I get the issues with doing an ad/demo hybrid while working on a true sequel concurrently. But it took me out of universe so hard I had to make a PSA of some kind:
1) Brotherhood made an error not EXPLICITLY noting that this was an ad/demo rather than real part of the story. Cause really, while I thought STASIS was eldritch because of the early game and a bunch of epic shadow/perspective/reuse tricks. JohnCarpenterPunk is cool too. THIS though? WTF?
"Sci fi Horror"? "Grim"? "Gritty"?? "Modern re-telling"??? "16:10"!?!?! BETWEEN WHICH SMALL D*K JOKE AND FORTNITE CHAR PORTRAIT!?!?!?
Was the gritty on the classic-cornie-zombie-voice "Brains..." dialog!?!?!?!
Was the 16:10 for watching that cool photorealistic fungal brain art turn into cartoon demo build crap that said "Please kill me thanks"?
Was the MODERN EDGE in the 4 different chars with personality and story summarized as "Haw. I'm fat. And gross. And kinky. Haaaaaaawwwwwwwww."?
2) This and other bizarre choices to not clean up their demo build crap in key points make me feel like the store page is trolling.
Srsly, why bother with char portraits or a story? And Hadley's dialog pulled me out of the universe so hard my brain made a cork pop. I won't blame the VA for that either. Even if I might tell John's his accent slipped sometimes.
3) "Modern edge" is just... Well for one thing it's entirely too much credit
for this story and another it's hilarious for several reasons. Like... According to Hadley she "only has
student loan debt and a goldfish" as legacy if not for her baby. Instead of Cayne being all "wow what a dumb, boring, not-useful-to-society, self-devaluing way to think of yourself" like a man of his background would, he's all "DON'T WORRY YOU'LL HAVE A FAAAAMILY SOOON!!!!!
A BAAAAABEH!!!!!".
I was really hoping for something to hype me before Bone Totem. But now frankly
I just understand how Star Trek and Star Wars fans must feel all the time. I
deserve it for not listening to Miycu I guess.
