A modern re-telling of the classic adventure game genre
Interesting story idea, reasonable background story, bad final script. Beautiful (and few) scenarios. Annoying gameplay. Unimaginative bad ending.
2 stars because there is some gold not found there. It could be use to make a good game one day.
I am not a big fan of point and click adventures, in my entire life I played maybe 5-6 of them and finished just a half. I find Machinarium the best of the genre and maybe one of the best games I've ever played.
Before I downloaded the game I've read all of the reviews on GOG , few other gaming sites and I watched some reviews on YouTube. The general opinion is mostly mixed so I decided to try it.
- There a LOT of the games that costs 10-20 up to 50$ and are absolute unplayable/unfinished garbage, and this game is FREE, so keep that in mind. I finished entire game without single bug or glitch whatsoever (maybe I was lucky), no long loading screens (4-5 seconds tops), so technically it was perfect for me. And my video settings were set on ultra.
- The things I liked the most in game were dark atmosphere and creepy, highly detailed scenery. I love isometric CRPGs, so this probably influenced my positive opinion on the aesthetics of the game.
- The story was ok, nothing special, but definitely not bad. It kept me interested through the game. As I have seen on other reviews, people hated the ending and most of them were very disappointed. I was prepared for the worst, but to be honest it wasn't that bad, nothing mind-blowing, just... meh.. ok
- The character animation was't good. I understand that protagonist is pregnant and they made her walk slowly on purpose, but there should be an option to skip long distances or speed the animation. Sometimes that slow motion would just make game more frustrating. The animations of other characters is repetitive short loop that doesn't make sense when the character is talking to you.
- The puzzles were the worst element for me and it should be the best factor of adventure point&click game. Some of them were ok at best, but the rest were just illogical nonsense that I resolved by pure luck or just trying to click/combine everything. Despite that I managed to finished the entire game without help or tip, so it's not that hard.
- It is a short game, almost like a demo. I was playing it for two days, around 2 hours each day, and I'm fine with that. It was too frustrating for me and I was glad when I finished it.
- The overall quality of this game deserves 3 stars because of the bad puzzle design which are the main component of every point&click adventure BUT this game is free and it shows a lot of time and effort invested in art and programming/developing.
Some say it's basically a demo, and it kind of is, but it feels like a complete story just the same. If you aren't sure about Stasis, then check our Cayne and if you like it grab Stasis. Has a very isometric view with an Aliens vibe.
