Capsized

short and relatively easy platformer/shmup in a strange but beautiful alien world, accompanied by fantastic (licensed) music and a disappointing ending. not that anybody would be playing this for the story. I say relatively easy but I had to take an extended break at some point, got stuck on a level, went back later and could continue. there's some sort of rating system, I ignored that, so going for gold might require more effort. then again, if you're better-versed in the genre (I pretty much never play this sort of thing), it might be a cakewalk. too bad the dev went in a lazy roguelite direction with cryptark, then decided to waste the player's time in wytchwood (mandatory inventory drop on death is always a colossal mistake), so they're one of the many indie one-hit wonders as far as I'm concerned.

A good game, yet the game goes against the cautious, stocked up ammo do not carry in between levels. Still good, just a warning.

I really enjoyed playing Capsized. The graphics are really well inspired and, I think, should never get old. The gameplay is sometimes a little bit messy, but nothing terrible. It was an overall great experience and I can only recommend it. I didn't try the coop mode, but it is probably a big plus.

While you won't devote days of your life to this game I had quite a bit of fun with it. You fly around, shoot enemies and solve basic environmental puzzles. Well worth a few bucks.

Capsized is probably one of my favorite indie-titles of late, alongside Hotline Miami, Osmos and And Yet It Moves. It's artsy, it feels nice, has some natural-feeling variety to its physics and no unnatural and "obvious" streamlining in balancing. Most of all I enjoyed the arcade mode. Endless fun and crazed challenges await. Its atmospheric qualities are quite melancholic and a mix of hope(lessness) and beauty as the protagonist struggles in a really alien and anxiety-inducing environment. Yet he's a survivor in his psychological profile. Probably for these reasons I found the game swell in slow nighttime hours, and when (occasionally) drunk 'n depressed. : )
