Great old game
I have played this game for years. The more popular Sid Meyers titles are child's play compared to this.

I like it but...
I randomly owned CtP 1 back in the day (I think my Uncle bought it for me) and loved it. I had never heard of Civilization back then, so I wasn't comparing it to that. C2P (see what I did there?) is clearly superior to the original- better graphics, more units/tech etc. so I love this game for the nostalgia. It's a good game, but honestly unless you have some special reason to visit this game like I did, play a classic. Civilization, Master of Orion, Alpha Centauri... This game is competent, but that's not a good reason to pay for a game this old.

Game lacks Many features
For a game released in 2000, this game has very few of the features one would expect from a game descended from the civilization series. For starters, there isn't even any music, though this is probably an oversight with GOG as there is an option for music. The game is overly complicated, so much that after playing Civilization 3,4, and Alpha Centuari, I can barely figure out how to do things. In addition, though it may sound odd, the game is also simplistic . There are only Ancient, Medieval, Industrial, Modern, and 2 future ages. While this may sound like many at first, there are few units for each age, and no unique units or anything to set the nations apart. The animation and Graphics are good for their time, but the Future units are very poorly designed and look tacky. Overall, It's a very poor game that should be avoided in favor of Civilization 3, or if you are into science fiction and future ages, Alpha Centuari.

Some improvement but...
A good follow-up to Civilization, but came out one year after Sid Meyer' Alpha Centauri. Pratically all the new features are lifted from SM:AC. AI is improved but still a step below the competitor, who features true difference in races that really change the gameplay.
