More enjoyable that its predecessor

I found myself enjoying this game much more than the first Call of Cthulu (Shadow of the Comet). It has far better controls/interaction/interface (true point & click), well-timed auto-save feature (really tones down the frustration when you die), and more linear progression, which I prefer. Also, no pseudo-mazes, and no need to keep notes. The option to keep the written dialogue on screen until you click was a very pleasant addition to a non-native english speaker like me. Considering its age, I fount it to have good graphics, atmospheric soundtrack, nice voice acting (I chose to play the US edition first, maybe I'll update when I decide to play the UK version too), and it run very smoothly on a Windows XP system. Minus half a star for the small duration (finished it it within a weekend), and another half star for some minor pixel hunting (only two times did I use a walkthrough, both of which were pixel-hunting related) All in all, a value-for-money purchase (especially for anything under 5$, as I bought it on sale)

Very good with rough edges

I've just finished this game and had no issue with save bug. However, on a couple of occasions after starting the game the controls were not working. Restarting the game solved the issue each time so that's not a big deal. This is a classic point&click adventure game inspired by the writings of HP Lovecraft. The art is very good and the music matches the game well adding tension to it. The game itself is not as dark as Lovecraft's stories, but it is captivating nevertheless. Especially the first act on a submarine feels very good. There is plenty of tension there given the small space and given the events unfolding. I found this game overall a bit short and not too difficult. There was only one time I got stuck for a while. Most of the puzzles make sense and are logical; the only one a bit far-fetched was the one I got stuck on. The plot is decent though I think the first half of the game is much better than the second half. It is as if the creators either lost the thread of the game or were rushed to finish it. As mentioned in the other reviews, the game strays too much from the Lovecraftian theme towards Indiana Jones. But the first two acts were excellent. The other issue I had with the games are the timed events. I have no problem with such sequences per se, but there were a few too many of them. Fortunately, the game saves just before them so you don't lose progress, but repeating the same sequence 10+ times is not always fun. Fans of Lovecraft might also be disappointed that the game, expect for some cutscenes in the 2nd half of the game, is not as dark and gritty as Lovecraft's novels. Overall, I had very enjoyable experience playing this game and would recommend it to wider audience of players, not just those interested in puzzle games.

A childhod classic

This is actually the first adventure game I have ever played. It isn't too long or too difficult, but quite enjoyable nontheless.

A significant improvement over SotC

The game runs well under Windows 10 and all of the technical aspects, graphics, sound, and controls are vastly improved compared to its predecessor 'Shadow of the Comet'. I only just started the game, so I cannot yet say if the story also holds up as well. My first impression is very good, though.

Suprisingly good point&click advanture!

I was in the 90s playing a lot of point and click games, but this one passed me totally. I didn't know it existed back in a day, i just recently found out that it existed on FB group. Checked it out on gog.com if its available, it was and i bought it, i'll buy the shadow of the comet next. Now what suprised me the most, story is very interesting, i really was invested whats going on. Graphics and animations are for the time quite well, voice acting could be better because sounds emotionless in practially all the characters and not so diffrent from person to person. It had a little Indiana Jones vibe because Nazis are present, they spoil the party and it has that supernatural and magic stuff. I would say that puzzles most of the time are quite logical, you rarely get stuck (and if you get stuck is because item is so small pixel that you just don't see it, or puzzle at the end of the game with the stones which i don't know how you should know which stone to connect and in what order). And timed puzzles are not annoying, usually are in games but here you quickly find out what you must do in most of them, so they are not annoying and there is autosave present (so you don't get screwed by save games). But game is very short i finished it before 4 hours of playtime, yes it's faster because puzzles are not so difficult or completely illogical but i would see that it would be at least 2 hours longer, because story really gets more and more interesting but than its over before you know it. It feels like game was rushed a little bit so it would catch te release date or something. And yes it could have VA for when you look items and stuff, but again, maybe the game was rushed like i said. Overall, if you like point and click games and like Lovecrafts theme go for it and buy it.
