Description
The easiest mode is 'HARD'!

BUTCHER is a fast-paced 2D shooter game and a blood-soaked love letter to the early 90s. As a cyborg programmed to eradicate the last remains of humanity, your sole purpose is to well... annihilate anything that moves.

So grab your weapon of choice (from chainsaw, through shotgun, to grenade launcher) and kill your way through underground hideouts, post-apocalyptic cities, jungles and more. And if you're feeling creative, there are plenty other ways of ending your enemies' misery - hooks, lava pits, saws... no death will ever be the same.

If kicking corpses into a lava pit and adorning walls with blood is your idea of a good time, BUTCHER is THE game for you.
  • Ultra-violent uncompromising carnage in the spirit of Doom and Quake (chainsaw included)
  • Skill-based gameplay mechanics
  • Release your inner artist, paint the walls with (permanent) blood (up to 4 million pixels available to be painted per level)
  • Use the environment (saws, hooks, lava pits, animals and other) to brutally dispose of your enemies
  • Choose from an array of weapons (featuring classics like chainsaw, railgun and the deadly grenade launcher)
  • Adorn more than 20 levels with the insides of your enemies
  • Soak in the dark atmosphere reinforced by a wicked, heavy soundtrack (while you kick corpses around)
  • Die painfully: melt in lava, become piranha food, get crushed by heavy doors... and more!

Bloody Good Time!!!

First, there is a Casual Mode with 400% to life, so Butcher can be played by just about anyone, but I advise playing on a harder difficulty. The game is so goriously brutal! Yes, I meant to say "Goriously!" lol This game has awesome gore and is very playable with the keyboard and mouse! In a nutshell, Butcher is like a 2D DOOM style game in the sense of all the gore and powerful weapons! It is super fun and has great controls! I have not tried a gamepad yet, as the keyboard and mouse work so well! I'll try later... There really is no need for anymore game details. If you like playing 2D platform type games with loads of gore and a lot of powerful weapons, you need to play this game! Don't deny yourself the fun! It runs super smooth on my computer. Hardware Overview: Model Name: MacBookPro 11,5 (Mid 2015) Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 16 GB Type: DDR3 Speed: 1600 MHz Video Card: AMD Radeon R9 M370X, VRAM 2048 MB Operating System: OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6 (64 bit OS)

One click to kill, one mistake to die

You may say that Butcher is hard. Hard is the normal setting, ramping up impossible. But you will get through if you have played an FPS, or other game that requires good aim. Levels are fixed, except for enemy spawn locations, to avoid pre-aiming. This means that after several (or many) attempts you will succeed whether due to improved skill, knowledge of the level, or both. Butcher is not based on luck. It is a short game, and the graphics are brutal but primitive. Clearly, Butcher is made by a Terminator fan. There are a few references when selecting the difficulty, and a hand at the very end. In between you terminate fragile humans who carry the same arsenal of deadly guns. If you happen to get buckshot in the face, it is game over. What you have, and they lack, are reflexes and mobility. You also possess a magic button called melee, and it is not the chainsaw. A melee attack stuns and pushes enemies away. If you practice a bit (a lot), you can throw enemies off cliffs, into hooks, and save precious ammo. Ammo is everywhere, and yet you are forced to rotate weapons often as weapons deplete fast. The balance is great. Butcher is not a platformer. There are some sections that have rotating shredders or spikes in placed that I have, all, visited at least once. Yes, you jump constantly. Not to avoid deadly pits, but to break line of sight as you can kill only a limited amount of enemies with every shot. Only if you want to collect the secret skulls, are you required to make some tricky moves. And there are a few places where you can shortcuts difficult areas by a grenade jumping, being fast to reach a door before it closes, or kill a scientist through a wall with a powered up railgun shot.

Best game I've played all year

Anyone complaining about difficulty is just a whiner, the game looks, sounds, and plays fantastic. The levels are diverse and well designed, and as you play you develop the twitch shooting you need to beat the levels. It's fast paced, tactical, and difficult as hell, but you respawn so quickly it doesn't matter. It's not rage quit frustrating, it's "I have to play this level one more time" every time you die frustrating. And the sound design and artwork is flawless. In short it's absolutely worth buying.

Unity Analytics Beware

I don't blame devs for this as they probably don't know, but the fact that it is there should be known
