Builders Of Egypt is an economic type of city-building taking place in the valley of the Nile. The story starts in a little-known protodynastic period in which you will be able to observe the birth of the Old Egypt and finished with the death of Cleopatra VII.

The most important aspect is the skillful management of urban planning by shaping the grid of streets, placing buildings and their mutual relation. Well-designed city will greatly improve economic efficiency which may convert into city income.

Diplomacy and politics:
The governor will face very difficult choices to be made in a constantly changing political environment. Costly expeditions, Pharaoh and other cities requests, military threat and a mixture of different cultures will be a commonplace. A series of wrong choices can cost the loss of trading partners and low interest in the city by settlers. Moreover, the total lack of obedience to the rulers may end up with a civil war.

Religion:
Deity will be able to interfere with daily life but it will be done implicitly. The main aspect of religion will be satisfying the need for access to the places of worship, providing supplies for temples or organizing festivals. Neglecting this sphere may result in a dangerous social unrest on a par with e.g. famine.

Trade:
Trade is the most important element in royal treasury. Without it, it is very difficult for economic stability built solely on taxes. Therefore, in the interest of the player, producing goods for export at prices that will be able to change dynamically depending on the geopolitical situation, will be required.

Monuments:
What would the real Ancient Egypt be without its monumental sacred architecture? There are mastabas, obelisks, Karnak among others, the Ramesseum and of course the pyramids that are waiting to be built. You will be able to observe the slow process of construction. A team of carpenters, masons, architects and ordinary workers will rise building step by step. It will not be just a graphic feature - the building process is costly and will have an impact on the finances or the public mood.

War
Egypt's history is full of clashes of emerging and failing empires. You will have the responsibility of defending cities from foreign military attacks, making plans to attack and joining your forces on Pharaoh's own call.

Very dissapointing :(

I was playing Pharaoh & Cleopatra just a sec before this game (probably that's why it popped up as "You may like"), so maybe I was too much expecting something more or less similar to Pharaoh or Children of the Nile... BUT... I know it's supposed to be demo only, but there are so many issues. Farmlands and fishing spots are extremely limited; you can build a shrine, but it's not working; bazaar needs to stand next to granary, or the carriers will never fill it up; workers are sent to workplaces in some odd way, so suddenly the well with 2 workers needed stops working, when granary plus bazaar with 5 workers each, both built next to well have full workforce... One extremely annoying thing: going back to the main menu means you need to see all producers intros, and when you want to see creators in main menu, you get a blank page... There's a lot of balancing and debugging needed for the producers :/

Caesar III (1998) is so much better

"Builders of Egypt" obviously has the same game principal as "Caesar III" (1998). I liked Caesar III very much and it still runs on Windows 7. You have to construct buildings along paths. Some houses for the citizens and other kinds of facilities for supply with water, food and goods. After creating production chains, you may establish trading routes, organize import and export, raise or lower wages. There are many things that "Builders of Egypt" has in common with the older title, but does far worse and which should be improved: - The muddy graphics: I really don't know why the developers use the Unreal Engine. The landscapes look muddy and so do the buldings even with the best graphics options activated. This game uses far too much system resources in comparison with other games from this genre like "The Settlers 7". It also is annoying that the game zooms far too much into the scene by default. - The gameplay: It is very difficult to get a good overview about the things going on in your settlement. - Some structures can only build at very limited places on the map and there is no logical reason to this. You don't really have a choice where to deploy. - At some point, how do i get more settlers (=workers) to come to my houses? - Why do settlers creep slower than snails when they arrive to my village? In "Caesar III" they run with their whole luggage, which makes them become citizens and workers earlier. It's more fun if i don't have to wait for hours until new citizens take effect on the game.

It's a start

The Prologue feels like early access, which it clearly is. The game itself will need a lot more polish and features before it can compete with similar games in the genre. Although if you are into ancient city builders it might be worth keeping an eye on. Builders of Egypt does have a certain charm that makes these types of games so appealing. I will definetly be back to see how the development progresses.

Slow copy

Not really overwhelmed. I played the original Pharaoh, this game is copying everything from buildings design to overall game setting, but using high resolution graphics which makes that unplayable. I´m going back to good old Pharaoh..

Outdated Alpha

You should realize if you download this free alpha that it is sadly out of date. The version here is .17-something, while the equally free alpha on Steam is .3573. I am a staunch supporter of gog, and not all that fond of Steam, but if you really want to see what this free alpha looks like, get it from Steam. Downloading this one will only leave you frustrated because it is BAD. It only vaguely resembles the version on Steam. The graphics are the same and that is about it. The Interface is completely different and the missions are also. The good news, if the developer actually updates the game itself on gog in timely fashion, is that said developer appears to be improving the game. Given how the free alpha is being treated, I have my doubts. The game itself, once experienced properly, is very like Caesar IV crossed with Children of the Nile. Buildings have circular areas of effect and must be built adjacent to roads. Migrants trickle in if you build housing. The Nile floods once a year. I have not played long enough to know whether there are random weather effects.
