Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Everyone should play at least one of Tim Schafer's games. He's freaking genius! First time I bought this game on Steam, played through several initial levels - but gamepad didn't work, and then RTS elements kicked in (I hate RTS mixed with other game mechanics!)... But the story, characters, humour and this silly world of Heavy Metal Album Covers and... and... JACK BLACK! This time bought it here, maybe they at least fixed gamepad support. Aaaaand I'm an idiot, ok.
I can sum this game up in one simple question: If you died right now, would you rather go to heaven... OR THE WORLD FROM THE HEAVY METAL CARTOON?! If you answered the latter, buy this game immediately.
I really wanted to like this game. I'm a rock fan but not really into heavy metal but I still was very interested in Brutal Legend. But......the camera. I don't usually have one feature or annoyance break a game for me but the camera is horrible. It spins around the character at the most inopportune times and the distance setting is just too damn close usually.
One of the developers on a Steam forum mentioned that they couldn't change it when they were porting it from console to PC so they were aware of the problem but just couldn't fix it. Or more likely, due to time/budget constraints couldn't get it done in time.
A shame, for me this game will always be a promise of what could have been.
Great love letter to metal and stuff, JB is great, the writing is a little mid sometimes, but otherwise, rocks my socks off. Plus, Ozzy Ozbourne is here. God bless your soul prince of darkness.
