Description

Multiplayer notice: The DRM free version of Brutal Legend is single-player only.

The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.

Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music, it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed!

  • You have the freedom to walk, drive, or fly anywhere in a fully streaming open world whose art style is inspired by some of the most iconic and hilariously rad metal album covers ever created. Every vista in the beautiful universe of Brütal Legend looks like it was pulled from a Frank Frazetta painting.
  • Fight alongside Metal Gods--such as Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and many, many others--while rocking out to the most epic heavy metal soundtrack in video game history.
  • Your guitar is your weapon. Wield a demon-slaying, electricity-creating guitar and use the power of Metal to summon wild beasts into battle, buff your teammates, and melt faces!

Treat it more like long nostalgia memory

As for a game I would give it one less star. Gameplay has its flaws, sure, especially RTS part was kinda chaotic... Or maybe it's just me, because such genre isn't my cup of tea? Anyway, despite lacking jump button and getting stuck in few places playing BL was a pure pleasure. What's worth mentioning? Huge licensed music base to listen in your car when roaming around greatly designed areas looking like right from Iron Maiden CDs covers. Moreover - short but nice story starred by many metal legends. Sometimes it felt like they push too much about "what true metal is", especially in the beginning, but as a whole game doesn't discriminate anyone, even this "joke" track from the start finds it place in mouth of metal. ;) I would say this game is like metal history and culture in a pill, enjoy it as an art and nostalgia generator, gaming part isn't the most important there, even if it's pretty decent overall. Description seems not to mention it but it's GOTY edition of the game with all dlcs possible, even these avaiable only for preorders long time ago (as I checked on wiki). It really makes this gem shiny!

For the Metal

I played this game for the first time at launch, in 2009, I think. And it was great. Here is the thing: if it was another game, set in generic fantasy setting, with orcs, elves and other stuff, I would have said that it's quite mediocre. However, it is filled with love and passion for Metal. Your units are headbangers, roadies and Kiss-like painted amazons. Lenny Killmister is the leader of your healers. The soundtrack of this game was the very thing, that has shown me why this genre is loved so much. Sure, it has flaws, but it has good story, lovable characters and units, and I bet that strategy elements are a lot better in the PC release.

Flawed But Majestic

In less than five minutes Brutal Legend throws you into a dark fantasy world and gives you a guitar and axe to slice up gruesome enemies. There are new mechanics and story points every few minutes, all conveyed through highly detailed artwork, good voice work, and one of the best soundtracks ever collected. Then the game suddenly throws in an entire real-time strategy system which quickly becomes the main focus and progress becomes a crawl. There’s nothing wrong with the strategy system and while the units are amusing and being able to personally wade in and massacre bad guys is fun, the shallow mechanics can make end-game encounters a tedious grind. The real attraction is being able to drive around and explore a heavy metal album cover world come to life with fantastically designed creatures and landscapes. There are charming cameos from nearly every titan of the heavy metal genre and the writing is quality throughout with everyone doing a solid job. It’s a game best bought for the unique experience and cranking the speakers to ear-splitting.

Good but very repetitive

Good story, decent combat mechanics and great landscapes and music. Unfortunately it lacks of diversity on side quests and maybe you can get frustrated with the stage missions, they have none check points and if you loose, you start from the very beginning. Overall, it's a good game.
