THE BEGINNING of the game is the best, and you will remember it long after -it sets the tone of the game, but sadly as it continues it sort of fizzles. While point-and-clicks usually have illogical or plain crazy solutions, what broke the game for me is that sometimes you proceed by doing things that shouldn't work, but do because the writers didn't have a better idea and couldn't just drop it. Without giving spoilers -the usual way of gaining unauthorized access is to lie and pretend you are authorized, right? In one instance you get access with the other party fully realizing you are not authorized, with no reason at all to help you, but whatever! THE STORY DRAGS TOO MUCH -when you finally leave the starting city, after what it looks like a lot of trouble, you reach another place then pretty much start from scratch, with no sense of accomplishment. Conversations seem too forced and boring, with the humor somewhat lacking. It's sort of a detective story, but rather than picking up clues you seem to be drifting around, talking your head off until you reach the option that will work. SIMILAR TO OTHER GAMES IN THE GENRE, admittedly, but it gets a lot of hype. The visuals of the original are beautiful, technically it works ok, I liked the voice acting, but as a game it's not very entertaining and the story starts with a bang then fizzles. I loved the beginning but after a few hours of progress (finishing the first city) I just lost interest and didn't finish, IT FELT LIKE A CHORE. I'm not a huge fan of the genre so you might take this review with a grain of salt; for what is worth I loved (and finished) Grim Fandango and Sherlock Holmes: Secret of the Silver Earring (despite finding them flawed, too). IF YOU ARE HERE BECAUSE you read Broken Sword was one of the best of all time and want to try the genre you'll probably be disappointed.
