Worth playing for the nostalgia
Whether or not you enjoy Broken Sword is mainly down to the story and the plot itself is in many ways typical of the time, handsome tourist wanders in to international intrigue, soon finds himself having to save the world from mystic forces with the aid of a beautiful sidekick (Gabriel Knight & Grace Nakamura, anyone?) The few true puzzles the game has are well thought out and provide all the pieces required to complete within each environment but the pieces leading up to finding the puzzles are from all over the place, not many items are wasted so the usual adventure trope of hoarding everything you can steal becomes essential, alongside the repeating topics of conversation until exhausted to expose new information. Many environments while nice were quite disappointing, only 2/3 POI in each location can be examined or interacted with, feels like they missed a trick having such detailed backdrops and so few ways to appreciate the details. Not annoying or overtly broken like many from the time so 4 stars, still a fun adventure game classic!
