Some jokes. Unless you don't think they're funny, in which case we totally weren't trying to be funny.
A whole bunch of awesome PUZZLES
This one really hard puzzle that you won't get but you'll look it up online and not tell anybody.
This half-game has a beautiful design, great voice work, and excellent music; I also finished it (taking my time) in 3 hours.
I paid $25 when the game launched, and was left regretting my purchase and waiting for the sequel at the same time. Even at half price, I would recommend you stay away from this game until part two comes out. At that point $25 would be worth the experience (of five or six hours of game play).
It's drawn for kids, and doesn't look that good. I'm glad someone can draw mounds of ice cream, but there are much better animations. The tasks are not obvious and a walk-through is needed. It is very repetitive. You have to do the same thing over and over. It is boring for kids and adults.
This game met my expectations to the letter. It has the old Lucasarts charm to it, but still adds something new. The animations are gorgeous, the voice acting is top notch, and the puzzles, though easy, keep it interesting. The story and setting will keep you engrossed all the way through. Those that say it's too short must remember that this is only the first act. Tim has promised that the second act will amp up the difficulty and be much more in-depth. Worth the buy 100%!
I almost didn't buy this because of the reviews saying it was a little light on on the puzzles and gameplay. Those reviews aren't wrong - the puzzles are fairly simple and the gameplay is basic for the most part. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
Instead, the emphasis is on the characters and plot, which is my preference - I can play plotless puzzles almost anywhere, but this game really made me care about what I was doing. I often find myself using walkthroughs in games like this, if I am stuck somewhere where the plot isn't doing it for me, and I didn't have to do that with this game, both because the plot is immersive and because the puzzles are simple enough that I never became frustrated with esoteric puzzles needing five items from different areas, bit there is enough challenge to keep from being boring. If you want super complex puzzles then yes, this is not the game for you. But it is EXACTLY the game for me, and I am glad I spent the money one it. I disagree with the reviewers saying there is no shortage of 'easy and unchallenging but good story games'. In my experience, it's the reverse! I suppose you always think there's a shortage of what you want most :P
The art, animation and voice acting is just incredible, and the storylines are different enough that there is something in them for different tastes. I am so relieved to be able to play as a sympathetic female character. (Also I love that she's a woman of colour... I just wish she and her family weren't literally the only non-white people in the whole universe, apparently). I will be thinking about and replaying this game for a while, it does remind me of my favourite lucasarts games in that the world is compelling and I want to spend more time there. If you're on the fence, I say give it a go! I think it's worth your dollars.
