Description
Bright Memory is a lightning-fast fusion of the FPS and action genres, created by one-man development studio FYQD using Unreal Engine. Combine a wide variety of skills and abilities to unleash dazzling combo attacks. SRO (Supernatural Science Research Organization) agent Shelia's adventure is about to begin.

This game depicts the maiden adventure of a woman named Shelia in the year 2020.

The 1000-year-old relic swords known as "Kanshou and Bakuya", discovered through SRO research, have been found to comprise a unique multilayered structure, containing a mysterious substance in their cores. This substance, known as the "Soul of Jiu Xuan", possesses the ability to reanimate the dead. In an attempt to take possession of the substance, the "SAI" - a massive terrorist organization controlling its own army - has used a cutting-edge piece of technology known as a "Quantum Transporter" to infiltrate the SRO research facility and steal top-secret and incredibly dangerous data. To make matters worse, while attempting to calibrate coordinates on the Quantum Transporter, Shelia mistakenly activates the device, immediately transporting everyone in the vicinity to the Floating Island - an airborne continent near the North Pole, undisturbed in its slumber for over 1000 years. It is soon discovered that the various beasts and corpses of those who once populated the island have been reanimated by the "Soul of Jiu Xuan", and they're coming for Shelia...

Bright Memory - Episode 1 Review

I am not yet done with this game, but it is simply amazing, the only issue I have with it, is that the resolution scaling, which I need for good performance on my GTX950 2GB, also scales down the UI unlike most other modern games. It is probably an issue of ho the UI is implemented in the game itself, what makes it look really nice in full scaling, but not so well at 75%. But other than that I really love the challange this game provides, whilst also considering, that not everyone loves painfull deaths that set you way back, like Dark Souls players seem to do, which is why the game saves litteraly before every encounter, so when you die you will not have to go all the way again, which for me as I like a challange, but don't want to do the same stuff over and over is a grerat solution. A lot of people state, that you get less than an hour per run, but if you are also not that good in those sort of hack n' slash, DmC, Dark Souls, Doom mashup, you can for sure spent more time on your first playtrough, like I am still doing, but as I mentioned before due to the nice placed savepoints this game is alot of fun even if you die a lot.

Not your average FPS

I bought this not reading the description or watching Videos on YT. The low price, some screenshots and the positive review score were enough for me to buy this. And I am not disappointed. I expected a "normal" indie fps. But this game actually feels like (I am really sorry for this...) Soulsborne with Guns. Maybe like remnant from the ashes? (haven't played that one yet.) It is fast and skill based. It runs smooth and I didn't notice any bugs yet except some graphical flaws when you are in the menus. Be warned though. I do not think this kinda game is for anyone. Buy it if you want to support the devs to finish the game. I really wanna see what the final product is like. Keep in mind that it is Early Access.

Bright Memory as a standalone title

It's definitely a passion project, as you can see references to games the developer was influenced by all over the place. Lots of time was spent on the presentation and had it came out between the late (20)00s and early 10s it would have put a lot of big budget titles to shame. Unfortunately the presentation doesn't distract from how mediocre the gameplay is. It's like a mismatch of what I assume were the dev's favourite childhood games. The gun play is ripped straight out of the "near future" Call of Duty games, the style system from Devil May Cry, and the laughably easy puzzles (which even the main character makes fun of), combined with the way the level starts falling apart upon completion, must come from the modern Tomb Raider games. Even if you love all of those titles I can't imagine that mashing them together would do anything for you. As someone who's indifferent to Call of Duty, Devil May Cry, and despises the newer Tomb Raider games. I just found the entire thing boring. Since the developer has promised a free copy of the full game, Bright Memory: Infinity, I'm willing to give it a fair chance and not write it off entirely, but on it's own Bright Memory is not worth the asking price. I doubt many people would agree that £7.19 (around $9) is a fair price for what is basically a thirty minute demo. If the intention was to use this to fund Bright Memory: Infinite it wasn't disclosed to me when I bought it.

Fun for what it is

definately a breath of fresh air in a stagnant genre, the combat is fast and fluid. the game is intuitive and the ui doesn't feel tacked on. i'd love to see where this goes and i hope more folks support it.
