Brigador: Up-Armored Edition

It's like Mechwarrior and Hotline Miami had a baby that grew up to be an isometric shooter and it's beautiful. The vehicles (mechs, tanks, power armor, hovercraft) and weapons (laser, railguns, mortars, machine guns, howitzers) are awesome and the gameplay is frantic and challenging without being frustrating. Even when you fail, it makes you want to try over and over again with different weapon and vehicle combos, because it's just so much fun. And the music, look, and overall asthetic of the game absolutely crushes it in all its stompy, gritty industrial, cyberpunk glory.

This is basically an arcade game with clumsy controls. There's no story of any significance. You play through small, self contained levels, kill everyone or whatever else the specific destruction objective is, exit the level, do another one. It's like Donkey Kong or Pac Man from 40 years ago in that respect -- one small screen, get through it, do another one -- and that isn't enough to hold my attention in 2021 unless the basic gameplay is really fun. And this game just isn't fun to play. The controls are a major problem. I know the developer has whined about most people abandoning the game before giving themselves a chance to get used to the clunky tank controls. Well, I gave it enough time to realize I was never going to have any fun playing a game that controls like that.

My biggest gripe with the game is the aiming. The cursor sometimes blends in with the envirnment too much, making it impossible to see where the shot will go. Firing artilery is a wildcard, even if you stand still. Otherise the game is pretty gud. The visuals are great The soundrack is kino tier The gameplay if fun And the suplimentary materials are worth an extra penny

At $20, this game is a steal. Amazing art style. Amazing atmosphere. Amazing soundtrack. Amazing gameplay. If you like mechs, you will like this game.
