Missing patches, be warned. [non-review]

This game has not been updated since late 2015 here on GOG. GOG has been stuck with 1.09, yet Steam even had some updates up to 1.11. The developers and I had corresponded over GOG updates and they told me swiftly that updating on GOG would not be economic for them. Apart from the missing patches, it's apparent that this game had left Early Access way too early. Putting it politely, it's an absolute turd of a game once you get a good look at it. Gloss over the Steam forums and reviews for further depth. It's also clear that GOG has a thing for anything published by Devolver Digital, and will bend over backwards for them regardless of the title in question. This game, regardless of being outdated, is a clear example of bad curation; and the big man in charge of accepting games should really have done his homework on this poor excuse to make an informed decision, not a blind one for the love of Devolver Digital.

Half-hearted attempt, very disappointed.

It starts off exciting but its swiftly downhill from there. I was looking for a zombie theme, with XCOMesque combat, and some story/RPG elements to go with it. What Deadline actually is, is an XCOMesque combat system tacked onto a zombie shooter, where you mainly fight things that have little ability to hurt you, and where you wander around small, undeveloped maps essentially just going to the next location with no story to speak of. To top it off the game lacks polish to a severe degree, to the extent you kick down *every* door (because this was the default animation in the first game), where each area resets whenever you transition there, and where loot drops are just white rotating blobs that are not even likely to be relevant. Pro: - Varied combat abilities - Beginning character model customization - Detailed weapon models - Pause and plan command mode + real-time if desired - Opening scene is exciting/provocative Con: - Minimalist plot, under-developed with no characters - Pointless skill trees, apart from starting abilities, skills mainly just give +% to combat - Spartan, under-developed environments, particularly the "dungeons" - Frequent and too-easy combat, poor AI, poor path-finding - General unpolished feel (e.g. locations reset every time you enter, placeholder icons stand in for loot drops, all weapons are upgraded esoterically with unexplained "scrap" you constantly pick up from zombies as the fuel for upgrades, corpses all disappear almost immediately) - Unbalanced combat abilities (e.g. taking explosive perk is an overpowered free grenade, which renders grenades you find useless) - Bugs (e.g. zombies caught on objects, objects hanging above ground level, "money" loot disappearing before combat even ends)

Update 2016 Nov

Just want to let you know that there is a Update for Win and Linux. You can play the Game in Realtime or Pause & go or Turn based. Yes there are many things to improve, yes this game isn´t perfekt. But it´s better than ever Jagged Alliance 2 Clone or Jagged Alliance remake, relaunch. Only the Orginal Jagged Alliance 2 with 2.13 Mod have a better Gameplay. Ich can´t say antything about compared tothe new X-Coms because I don´t play DRM Games an they are steam only. Compared to Xenonauts this Game has better Grafix and plays faster. Compared to Fallout Tactics I like this Game in Gameplay. The Real weak Point of the Game is the Story telling. It´s just not the feeling that you have in Jagged Alliance 2 or FO Tactics you can´t choice from diffrent Mercs wich feel, play, diffrent from each other. No custom Sounds fopr each Squad Member. From Jagged Alliance this 3 steps forward but also 2 steps back.

Game IS fully updated on GoG

Lots of reviews complain about bugs/outdated versions. Not true anymore; seems to be fully patched and working well. Haven't run in to any major bugs so far, played for about 4 hours. That being said, the gameplay is problematic. Parts of it I enjoy, parts of it are very frustrating. I feel like the game was designed around Consoles first and foremost, which bugs me the most in the equipment/maps/etc interface. Weapons only show a DPS rating, which is rather lame, as you don't see how much damage each shot does, nor your potential crit chance. The "skill tree" for each class is.... can I just say "bad"? You are VERY limited in your options to progress down the tree, often being forced to take useless skills (my sniper HAD to take assault rifles skills, even though he never uses them) Non-weapon equipment (armor/clothing) is very unintuitive- armor has a rating, but it doesn't say WHAT that rating actually does. It also has a "weight class?". I'm not sure what it does. Maybe slows the character down more with heavier classes. Headgear has weight classes too, not sure if it compounds or not. Several issues with units only hitting objects in front of them when they have 90% hit chance on a target. The lack of any kind of "stance" system means combat with human enemies (who used ranged weapons) can go very badly for any of your guys who use short range weapons (primarily shotguns)- it's very hard to get close without getting turned in to swiss cheese. Also cover seems way too effective- enemies behind cover often have only a 5-8% chance to be hit, even by a sniper rifle.
