Botanicula is a point'n'click exploration game created by Jaromír Plachý and Amanita Design. It’s about a group of five friends -- little tree creatures who set out on a journey to save the last seed from their home tree, which is infested by evil parasites. The gameplay is about exploration, solving little funny puzzles, meeting strange tree creatures, and paying attention to the music as it provides you with useful clues and hints. The whole game takes place on one huge and strange tree that is inhabited by bizarre and freaky creatures.
This is not an ordinary game. It is far from it. Everything about it is curiously unique and very surreal, and that alone makes it worth checking out. It's just not possible to be bored in this game, as every new location brings something new and intriguing. The exploration elements are made with incredible polish and attention to detail, and the same applies to the musical score, sound effects, and, most importantly, the visuals. The synergy of those elements create a beautiful and memorable adventure that is enthralling beyond measure.
Visually stunning and emotionally touching game that is as unique and bizarre as it is fun.
Highly interactive environment that encourages experimentation and exploration.
Stylized soundtrack and sound effects, created by Czech alternative band DVA, are beautifully synchronized with what is happening on the screen.
Special Botanicula language.

While I did end up using a walkthrough due to having a rather low patience threshold, that is likely a personal failing of mine. The game itself was sweet, the creatures bewildering and yet cute, the story lovely, though I think it would have been better with at least a few paragraphs summarizing exactly where the characters were and why they were doing what they were doing.
The music was also very nice.
4.5 stars, as I would have preferred some story spelled out.
I do recommend if you like colorful and weird games, and don't mind not being told what to do.
This is the first adventure game by Amanita Design that I purchased and I loved every bit of it. There are a great variety of rooms and puzzles to solve, loads of animation which is created in a such a beautiful and sweet manner that you want this game to continue for the rest of your life. I loved the fact that this game is quite different from what I've played before - almost all puzzles are solvable in an unexpected way which in some games is a disadvantage, but it this beautiful and psychedelic adventure it is a true treasure. I played this game together with my wife and we were so amazed by all the small details the creators took into account - for example: if you finish some puzzles and come back to the same room - the situation may be changed and there might be something new to discover. I was as well surprised with the imagination of designers -some rooms are somewhere in between a psychedelic dream and trance trip (although it is made in a pleasant and sweet way). In general, I recommend this game to those who really want a great relaxed experience. Don't rush, dive slowly into this wonderful world of life on a tree.
Botanicula is a visual and auditory treat with a whimsical story that, as others have pointed out, feels a lot like an old Pixar short. The player directs a fruit and its companions on a quest to rescue their ecosystem from vile, life-sucking spider-monsters. The game contains no dialog, either voiced or as text, relying instead on animated prompts. The story is advanced by solving puzzles with a variety of mechanics, making this a puzzle game in addition to interactive fiction.
I do have a bone to pick with the gameplay of both this game and, to a lesser extent, its predecessor from Amanita Design, Machinarium. Too many of the puzzles reduce to randomly clicking on and moving things around until they work. The "Aha!" moment for these puzzles comes only after one has stumbled upon the solution (although sometimes there's no such moment at all), and that robs the player of the satisfaction of figuring it out. In a game where the core mechanic is solving puzzles to advance the story, that's less than ideal. Somewhat unfortunately, both games are given a pass for this because they're artsy, and holding them up as the greatest works of the computer age supposedly shows one's sophistication and good taste.
But yes, if you're into games as an artistic and storytelling medium, this is worth a play. The aesthetic is awesome, and it's no mistake that this and Machinarium have had a big influence on countless indie adventure games. In the vain of knowing what you're paying for, do keep in mind that Botanicula is a short game. Even a first playthrough can be completed in three or four hours.
