Description

For fifteen centuries, Hush House was a fortress of knowledge. Until the fire. The collection is ruined, and the last Librarian is gone. Only one with your unique talents can rebuild the library.

BOOK OF HOURS is an elegant, melancholy, combat-free RPG set in an occult library, from the creator of Fallen London, Sunless Sea and the double BAFTA-nominated Cultist Simulator.

Enjoy the sweet peace of organising books and customising your new home, all while unpeeling centuries of history from the occult stones about you.

The Librarian's influence extends far beyond the walls of Hush House. It's up to you to determine how history is written.

In this 20 - 40 hour game, you'll:

ACQUIRE, RESTORE and CATALOGUE occult books, scrolls and curiosities.

STUDY the nine Wisdoms, and conquer the nine Elements of the Soul.

GUIDE visitors who come seeking your assistance, choosing their paths and stories.

EXPLORE the Secret Histories and the pantheon of Hours that rules them.

RESTORE a vast crumbling edifice built on the foundations of an ancient abbey.

WREST your past from obscurity. Choose from nine different Legacies which determine who you are. You might be a Magnate, abandoning wealth to seek peace. Or an Archaeologist, fleeing the curse you awoke. Or perhaps your origins are more esoteric, like the Symurgist, or Twiceborn? Each playthrough offers different opportunities.

Not much to say

A laid back and unharsh version of cultsim. A lot more simple, forgiving and laidback, but if you've never played cultsim it's still gona be challenging. I'm pretty much obsessed with this games lore and half of the game is reading anyways.

As good if not better than Cultist Sim

Having fallen in love with Cultist Simulator, I was afraid that Book of Hours would not live up to expectations, but it does. It takes the mechanics of CS and brings them to a new / different level. I am only a few hours into it, but it's already left its mark. This may be the most lovecraftian game ever made! Uncovering dreadful mysteries in forbidden books while fighting for your sanity is a much more unique and faithful experience to Lovecraft than fighting tentacle monsters, and it really works as a game. Must play!

Overcooked! - Slow Paced Occult Librarian Edition

Good: Bite Size nicely written lore dumps everywhere; under turtles, inside gull eggs, in the tubes of a church organ. Everywhere has a little something for you to find and enjoy, and the promise of more in another 5 minutes if you want it. Pleasant and relaxing soundtrack. Very sharp crafting engine. This does overlapping skills and resources extraordinarily well and would enrich a skyrim-like game massively, since it carries this game by itself. Charming visual style. Sound engineering, mixing and effects good enough to highlight separately; this is very clearly a well crafted sound scape. Bad: Intentionally janky UI - this is obviously a design choice and it succeeds in its goals making every action seem meaningful - but will not do your RSI any good. Good memory or the wiki on another screen required for complex tasks. The UI makes this even harder by spreading verbs widely across and actively hiding information from you until past the first step of an activity Personal Taste: Somewhat overcompensates Cultist Simulator's constant timed demand for action and reaction by having zero stakes whatsoever. Timing and Endurance based gameplay; there's no real failure state and identifying a win condition playing without a guide, never mind achieving it, will take at least 6 hours if you're lucky. I like this game even more than its predecessor. It's a pleasant, inviting experience to whittle away the hours and gently take the mind on an occult sight seeing tour. The UI is the most serious opponent in the game in that it seems designed to hinder you from completing tasks - but it's very clearly for a purpose.

Great writing, fun

The loops gets a bit repetitive and playing it without the wiki could involve creating spreadsheets and doing "work". Nonetheless, a pretty unique game that will keep you glued to the computer if you're interested in books, occult or both!
