Flawed, but still fun early 2000s jank

Bloodrayne is one of those game franchises that could of have become HUGE, but due to multiple factors, it died out and never reached its full potential. And considering how this first game turned out, the potential was HUGE. This game 100% delivers on its premise, an sexy acrobatic vampire killing nazis. The combat is fast and frenetic and the violence is over the top. There's a lot of cool mechanics, like sucking on enemies blood for health and picking up new weapons dropped by dead opponents instead of reloading. That being said, it is from the early 2000s and with that comes a lot of jank. The good jank though. While the combat really should of been similar to devil may cry, its still fun, with lots of crazy moves to pull off. Unfortunately the story isn't very remarkable, with a thin plot and weak side characters. The only notable character is Rayne herself, who is pretty memorable and is voiced by Laura Bailey (who gives a great performance). In the end i'd definitely recommend bloodrayne, it can be janky at first, and the environments can get a bit repetitive, but with its fast pased campaign and frenetic gameplay, most of those criticisms can be gladly ignored. Vampiric nazi killing doesn't get much better than this. Also bonus points for this game literally having a cheat to make Rayne's boobs jigglier, absolutely glorious

Games like this went almost extint

Feminine beauty and sensuality for an action packed badass game. More than a decade past with feminist calling for censorship of such tropes. Will the industry go back to freedom of expression some day? Money speaks. It wants fun games back. It's said as we get older we lost enjoyment in games and get bored easily. No. The problem isn't us. It's the games. So safe, so afraid to express passion. So bland. Only a checklist for investors and good PR. Men like watching pretty women. Is that so unacceptable? Tolerate others. The gameplay is so fun. The enjoyment I got from this reminded me of Max Payne 1. If you played Blair Witch Rustin Parr, this game will fit very well with you. It's just an action shooter version of that game. I love how the lore across Terminal Reality games is kept. Many things from other Terminal Reality games are present in this one. God I loved this game so much. This was the first time I played it. I played it in hard and only got problems with the end boss. Very appropriate. Played with a controller.

Much better than you think

I have heard about it only recently, when it popped in my umpteenth, desperate search 'games like Tomb Raider'. I properly dismissed it as a 'sex sells' game for teenagers younger than the game itself, but at a moment of weakness, have finally broken and bought it. First, it's nothing like Tomb Raider in the slightest: zero puzzles and all it has in common with platformers is that Rayne can jump high. It's its own thing, and I was not giving it enough credit. While I hate zombies, and zombie nazis in particular, together with werewolves (ehm, 'a-unique-breed-of-vampire-or-we'll-get-sued-for-copying-Underworld'), mechas and cheesy lines (some of which eye-rolling, but some hilarious), it is exactly in the spot of not treating itself seriously, but not yet reaching self-referencing and parody or camp. It's not 'so bad it's good', it's just good, in that guilty pleasure kind of way. Even over sexualisation fits the genre called exploitation or grindhouse in film (think Roberto Rodriguez), where it's accepted as a part of the convention and enjoyed even by far left liberals. Earlier Tomb Raiders was actually much worse in that regard. The gameplay is repetitive and simplistic mechanically, but you need amazing reflexes to control super-fast moving and squishy Rayne well enough to keep her behind the backs of the enemies or meat shielded. Even the 'heal at will by bloodsucking' (nota bene the most sensible healing mechanic) is not broken, because it will just make you an easy target when swarmed. The bosses are fun, Laura Bailey as Rayne is really good, and the soundtrack is awesome. Even the graphics are better than the screens portray, as they focus on the first chapter. outside in Louisiana, which is little more than a tutorial, and the real game happens mostly inside in bunkers or amid ruins, where the early 2000's don't show nearly as much. Don't come expecting deep gameplay or a rich story, but all of us can enjoy a simple cheeseburger from time to time.

Reign of Blood and Fun

BloodRayne 1 is one of my all-time favorite games. It’s unapologetic unadulterated gorefest of pure joy, one that has a solid story and memorable characters: you will be playing as Rayne – a half-vampire working for a secret society, trying to stop the mid-20-century Nazis from getting their hands on powerful occult artifacts. In terms of gameplay BloodRayne is an action shooter without any annoying crafting, leveling, or collectibles – you will mostly be killing people - with your blades, guns you find or pick up off dead enemies, and by sucking their blood, which is also how you restore health. Now, unlike in many other games where you play as a vampire, you don’t have to weaken them first – no one will stop you from killing the absolute majority of your humanoid foes by jumping from one enemy to the next and sucking them dry. It won’t work on every enemy, though, and it’s anyway more fun to gun them down or cut them into pieces too. And boy, can you cut them! You won’t believe until you see just in how many ways you can dismember your human opponents. You can chop off their hands, arms, legs, heads, parts thereof, slice off the upper part of their torso… it never gets old! You also have a couple of useful special abilities, and other than Blood Rage none of them are tied to any meter – you can use them as much as you want! BloodRayne has a few platforming sections, but those sections are VERY generous, and are there more for fun and to make levels more interesting, rather than for added difficulty. Speaking of which, difficulty-wise BloodRayne is simply ingenious: in the beginning you feel like an unkillable monster, but then the game slowly gets harder. That way you get to have both a lot of fun with your vampiric abilities at the start and some challenge later on. By all means get this game – you will have hell of a good time and never regret it!!

An old time great...

This game was good then, it is still the best in todays day. It plays like max payne, a thirds person shooter, while maintaining one the hottest feme fatale protagonist(in my opinion) Rayne's the powers of vampiric powers, like jumping really high, surviving multiple shots, and using the nazi's like running, hostile health packs, since you know, you heal by feeding on them. Some design don't translate well, especially in todays era, like how water hurts you, you need to feed, in order to get maximum, or finally without spoiling much, the mechanics of the final boss. however all of this can manage by the cheat system in the game and it extended longetivity of game. Plus I'd argue it was first game to do... (lite spoilers) nazi zombies and that mech part from MGS 4 guns of the patriots. Not like Mech warrior series. also it was the first the game to use the talents of legendary Mississipi voice actor, Laura Baily, so yeah. anyways 8/10. highly recommend it
