Best Build engine game, full stop.

Shadow Warrior has beautiful environments and charmingly jank puzzles. Duke has the best movie references. Blood has truly impressive looking set piece battles, huge maps that encourage exploration and have shortcuts that cross through the map in a natural feeling, useful way. I would even go so far as to say that Blood is Dark Souls 1 tier in terms of how these handy shortcuts open up the maps. The combat is absolutely explosive both in terms of fun and the quite literal. You start the game blowing the ever-living hell out your enemies and it doesn't let up until the end of the final episode. I have over 180 hours on this Fresh Supply collection and I've only completed the entire game/add-on content once (Well Done skill), and i'm now on E2M7 of my appallingly brutal custom difficulty. If you're a fan of the greatest, most fast paced, secret-filled and humour laden FPS games the genre has to offer...how can you even say that if you've not played this incredible game? I'm sure you've at least seen the praise for this dynamite game that some legendary youtubers have posted, and...it's all entirely true. No need to thank me for the advice and have fun blowing a crowd of cultists into quivering, fleshless parodies of the human body with an appalling violence...but trust me, with how hard these enemies are, you will not pity them in the slightest, and delight in reducing them to the molecular level.

weaker than its peers

What makes this game pale in comparison to Duke Nukem 3d and Shadow warrior is the fact that the maps were designed specifically to waste your time. Enemies are placed in corners and behind obstacles so that you won't see them - and once you enter the room they will melt you with their hitscan weapons in a tenth of a second. This means that in order to clean out rooms, save scumming is what you are gonna do. If you like that, it is fine. I like the approach that Duke and Shadow Warrior took in which enemies were roaming around in the room, idk jackin off, and once you enter the room they become aware of you and start shooting. And even then you kinda had the time to change guns in the middle of the firefight - which is a luxury you don't have in blood. Every room is a trap, enemies are hidden and if you only set foot into a room for 0.5 seconds you are dead. You need to know enemy positions ahead of time or save scum. It is frustrating. Play Duke instead.

A Symphony of Carnage and Dark Humor

Five stars for Blood? Absolutely deserved! This game wasn't just another Doom clone; it was a gleefully macabre masterpiece that injected a heavy dose of horror-movie mania into the FPS genre. What I liked: Atmosphere & Tone: Blood's dark, gothic horror setting is unparalleled. From the eerie train station to the blood-soaked carnival, every level oozes atmosphere. The over-the-top, cheesy horror dialogue from Caleb, the protagonist, is iconic and endlessly quotable. Weapons: Forget your standard shotgun and pistol. Blood offers a truly unique arsenal, including pitchforks, voodoo dolls, and the devastating napalm launcher. Each weapon feels powerful and satisfying, encouraging creative carnage. Level Design: Levels are intricate and sprawling, filled with secrets and traps. Exploration is rewarded, and the sheer variety of environments keeps the gameplay fresh. Enemy Design: The Cultists, gargoyles, and other grotesque creatures are memorable and challenging. Their AI, while dated, still provides a decent fight. Horror Element: Blood was a pioneer in blending horror with FPS gameplay. The jump scares, unsettling sound design, and overall dark aesthetic create a genuinely tense experience. Areas for Improvement (Hindsight is 20/20): While the level design is great it could have been more streamlined in certain areas. Sometimes it could be confusing where to go. The enemy AI, while decent for its time, is obviously limited compared to modern standards. Why New Gamers Should Play Blood: Even after 28 years, Blood remains a must-play for FPS fans. It's a testament to the power of atmosphere, creative weapon design, and a healthy dose of dark humor. It demonstrated how horror could be effectively integrated into the FPS genre, paving the way for titles like F.E.A.R. and Bioshock. If you're tired of generic shooters and crave a truly unique experience, dive into the bloody world of Caleb. You will not be disappointed.

Thinking about it? Just get it.

Title says all you need. Blood is one of the best fps I have ever played. Sure, modern fps are better looking and have a more apparent story. But, in sheer gameplay alone, this game is on a league of its own. The only fps that can come close may be something like Doom (2016), though that has more benefit from being a modern shooter. If I had to describe this game, I'd say that it's what you get when you put an arsenal of weapons on a steam train and let it run wild across the map. Splash a helping of horror references and you get Blood. Just make sure to hard save and quick save OFTEN. There's no autosaves and this game doesn't pull any punches. At all.

Worth the money :)

THIS is how a remaster should be done. And once again Nightdive delivers. I played the original version somewherein 2003 using DOSBox since i had no system anymore that could natively run this game in DOS and my system was also pretty weak to run this game at full speed in DOSBox. It still ran but not really all that well. So when Nightdive announced they would be releasing this game i was relieved and instantly bought on release day. And apart from some smaller bugs on release, which have been subsequently patched, i must say playing this game has never bee more fun. it's a FANTASTIC remaster and you can still play it in a purist way if you want to, thanks to the many game- and video options. Even the original was already a full recommendation for everyone who loves fun and morbid games with so much love for details, easter eggs, hidden secrets and such a strong 90s 3D game flair. The remastered version even comes with motivating achievements for GOG Galaxy users. Very high replay value because of the creative level design and fun range of weapons. Totally recommended, even if you haven't played this game before.
