Black Book feels in some ways like a D&D campaign through rural Russia that inadvertently teaches you history and folklore along the way, which I absolutely love, that comes down to card-game battles rather than dice rolling which, again, I love. The pacing is off, the addition of Durak is a bit pointless and there are quality-of-life issues that could do with a bit of polish, but I'd still strongly recommend this game to anyone who thinks they might be interested.

Morteshka's second outing was a home-run. Black Book is a superbly written title, lifting the lids of a host of Slavic myths that were likely unknown to many of us previously. Gameplay can be easy at times, but the rest will keep you locked in.

If you can make yourself bear this so-called "3D" graphics (have seen better in late 90's), everything else is fine, even great sometimes.

Purchased on STEAM...
As a lonnnnng time adventure gamer, perhaps I inadvertently believed this game would be more adventure/story driven and was basically pulled in due to it's unique and intriquing graphics (albeit limited color pallett) I did appreciate the initial charm; however, ultimately, I found this game uninpired for a game and quite boring overall with awkward controls and was simply very shallow and slow paced as far as storyline and not compelling enough for strategy. I never even found enough appeal to finish the game and decided to read a book instead to scratch my folklore itch. I also should have known it would not ultimately settle with me due to it's blatantlhy dark lean; I'm more of an old school King's Quest-type story line diehard who still basically appreciates good against evil so this is an especially easy pass for me on double take.

Game might be good ...
... but it immediately crashes to desktop after start at the loading-bar-screen ... up to date system and drivers Win10 64bit, NVidia GeForce 2080 Ti ... NEVER had any problems with any other program or game from GOG or otherwise ... even restarted the system and tried to start game with anti-virus-software deactivated ... always the same result ... I doubt the reviews since I simply cannot be the only one with this particular problem on a stable standard system-environment
