BIOMUTANT® is an open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG, with a unique martial arts styled combat system allowing you to mix melee, shooting and mutant ability action.
A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided. Explore a world in turmoil and define its fate – will you be its saviour or lead it to an even darker destiny?
Key Features:
A NEW TAKE ON 3rd PERSON COMBAT
The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee and powers from your mutations. Learning new Wung-Fu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.
EVOLVE YOUR GAME-PLAY
You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to mutations like the Turtleform and Mucus Bubble, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.
NEXT LEVEL OF CRAFTING
You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash and crush weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton - the scrap-toy sidekick!
GEAR UP FOR ADVENTURE
You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.
SURVIVE IN A VIBRANT OPEN WORLD
You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.
AN UNUSUAL STORY WITH AN UNUSUAL END
Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided, in need of someone strong enough to unite them or bring them all down...
You are guided through the world by a Storyteller that narrates every step of your journey, but it’s your actions and choices that’ll decide how your story of survival ends.
Great environments, loot system, and combat but annoying overuse of narration and cut scenes are very off-putting. I have no idea why they decided to have every single thing narrated including npc lines. I don't enjoy being talked at in addition to the voice acting and subtitles readily available. Being inundated with short cut scenes is also makign me want to tear my hair out. Those two things alone make me take off a star. I really hope there is a way to skip the entirety of the intro once you beat the game to try different classes or a different mode of some sort because right now I couldn't see myself replaying the lengthy intro again.
I want to start out by saying this is a great game. The title doesn't even say how much this deserves 5 stars.
Here is why I love this grame:
- mechanics
- crafting
- weapons
- story
- side quests
- beautiful world
- great graphics & customization options
- controller support is great
- exploration
So now that I have the good out of the way, let's get to the not so great aspects.
- Fights seem disconnected sometimes
- AI feels a tad slow on attacking (both enemy & grass hopper)
- choices haven't really carried weight in my playthrough (dark & light)
- gear is too recycled, havent gotten anything new that I don't already have in quite some time.
- narrator gets annoying after a bit (maybe add a softer voice) or make it exclusive to major quests.
- character customization and non-evident gender associations with body and wearable gear (like it says skirt but literally the entire pelvis area is showing, why?) (non-female features with femenine clothing, who didnt think this through enough to just say make everything gender neutral if your not gonna finish the thought?)
- Backstory stuff, ooof. I cringe everytime I had to go back to childhood. Either take it out or make it a cutscene in the opening and let us get the jist of it. Having an NPC 4 hours into the game saying do you remember me is not a good intro to gaining clarity on why they need you to pick up the groceries now considering they fill in the after image of an issue that you werent even present for.
- Unlocking grasshopper moves by getting yourself beat up is also not thought through well either, literally no connection at all to this. Either patch that with findable materials to upgrade the helper directly or just make it unlockable by other means but losing a fight and saying your past is the past but here ya go anyways is just poor story telling and giving me a participation trophy for my troubles.
Honestly, this is still the best purchase ive made all year.
I really love this game. Even at lvl 44 you find something new, that's how cool exploring is in this game. Also the crafting system is very motivating. Love the quirky characters. Wish some textures were better and I miss the option to dismantle items right when I loot them.
If I could give 0 stars I would.
Ugly graphics, incredibly poor PC controls plus the fact it crashes CONSTANTLY, I can't even qualify this as a proper game. It looks like an alpha-build sold at full price.
I got this game on sale at 60% off, and that was still far too much paid for the result T-T
