I did not play this game until 2011. I played Beyond Good and Evil after finishing Portal 2 on the PS3. I'm not wrapped up in feelings of nostalgia about the game. This game has got a special charm that's so very hard to define. When I completed it, I thought to myself, this is one of the best games I've ever played. Since then, I've ploughed through some truly great games such as Demon's Souls, Skyrim, Dragon Age etc. So why do I still feel the same about this relatively short 10 year old game? You tell me. . . p.s. To all you guys out there who played this first time round - I'm happy to now know what all the fuss is about! ;-)
Didn't play this game "back in the days". I was very enthusiastic about checking it out. Story didn't catch me at all. Fight and stealth mechanics are tedious, racing seems little better. I can appreciate game even if it is outdated - I had great time playing (for first time) original Tomb Raider 1 or Nox lately but this game is not for me
Why? Ok, my judgement might be clouded by the fact that I'm a huge fan of this game, but trust me on this one, you want to play this game!
The main thing that appealed to me, was how much the story played on your emotions. I really felt entwined with the characters, you messed with them, you messed with me. Also, the story isn't your basic "the princes gets captured" kinda story, it has depth, intriguing characters and things that aren't quite what they seem.
Another thing that's great is the open world, and the beauty of it, I could just go for hours hovering around and in the city of Hillys just looking at everything and occasionally shooting a stranger(he, even hovering around gets boring sometimes). Off course I just enjoy open worlds(like in GTA, loved those), but the one in BGE is definitely the most beautiful I've seen.
As for the controls on PC... Yeah, I admit, I do like the console controls better(I have an Xbox and a PC version), but I completed both without too much trouble. It never felt like a "cheap port" to me, and felt quite natural. I'm not much of a PC gamer anyway, so me completing this game on PC is a good sign!
Off course, if you're into casual gaming without story, this is nothing for you. Then go play Halo or something. (no offence I own Halo 1 & 2, but it's nothing compared to BGE... great shooter though :P)
Anyway, I'm drifting away from my point, which is: BUY THE FRIKKIN' GAME!!!
Wasn't there a thing about M&M's or some sort of candy to follow? I have it on cdrom problem is one of the cdroms went bad. It's rare but I've had this happen now on two games (cd rot?, I've had dvd rot when the layers seperate like Laser Rot ) but cd rot I'd assume the label went bad. The game itself it alot of fun to play. Don't find those anymore. too much about fancy graphics..
