Description
From Charles Cecil, creator of the Broken Sword series, with art direction by Dave Gibbons, legendary comic book artist behind ‘Watchmen’, comes ‘Beyond A Steel Sky’, the long awaited sequel to the cult classic ‘Beneath a Steel Sky’.

You are Robert Foster. A child has been abducted in a brutal attack. You have vowed to bring him home. The trail has led you to Union City, one of the last remaining mega-cities in a world ravaged by shattering wars, and political meltdown.

Union City is a utopia, its people loving life under the control of an altruistic AI: ever-attentive androids, designer living, piazzas and bars. What’s not to love? But this City has a dark underbelly...

‘Beyond a Steel Sky’ is a dramatic, humorous, cyberpunk thriller in which engaging puzzles drive a fast-paced narrative set in a dynamic gameworld that responds to – and is subverted by – the player’s actions.

Features:

The World
An adventure set within a dynamic world, populated by wilful characters driven by motivations that the player can subvert. In combination with a unique hacking tool, multiple solutions to puzzles emerge from player choices.

The Story
Unravel dark conspiracies, defeat a terrifying antagonist in this dramatic, humorous, cyberpunk thriller, which explores contemporary themes: social control, AI, and total surveillance.

The Puzzles
Intelligent puzzles are interwoven with an intriguing dramatic narrative to deliver a compelling gameplay experience.

The Look
A beautifully detailed, comic-book styled world, from the mind of legendary comic artist Dave Gibbons.

I'm sorry, but no.

I love graphic adventure games, and this one is simply disappointing. - The controls are very clunky: the PC version seems to have been just an afterthought. - Along with the controls, every object and character in the game always gets in the way of whatever you're trying to do, making the overall experience extremely frustrating. - The graphics look nice, but I think that the engine used was not the right one for this kind of games, at least in its current state. - The puzzles are not challenging at all and mostly based on the same logic and hacking interface. It's like playing at a "very easy" difficulty level. They could have actually implemented different difficulty levels if they wanted to make the game more accessible. - The characters are forgettable. - The dialogues are forgettable. - The story is forgettable. - The finale is forgettable. - It tries to be funny. It is not. - There's a "subtle" political subtext which is simply ridiculous and somewhat obnoxious. Avoid this one, it was painful to play till the end. There are so many beautiful graphic adventures out there.

A decent modern adventure game

Presentation 8/10: Graphics are quite pleasant. Not mind blowing but the art direction conveys the sense of the city and can look beautiful at times. Voice acting is adequate. Music seems barely there, but not intrusive. Story 7/10: Having recently played the original, the story gives the player a good incentive to re-visit the city and get a "what happened after" sort of feeling. The use of focused, small areas, instead of multiple screens, keeps the player focused on the task at hand. Gameplay 7/10: As mentioned under Story, the play areas are smaller and more focused, which to me seems like an improvement over the traditional point-and-click adventure, multi-screen, try everything on everything style of the past. However, the use of invetory does seem limited, and even though the attempted hacking device feels more like a gimmick, it is focused enough to get you along. The only real complaint I have is that the character movement is a bit too slow and clunky. Summary 7/10: A fairly decent adventure game, if a bit on the easy side. Not a must play, but interesting enough if you are a fan of the genre.

Brilliant ! A true gem !

All I can say is I wish there are more games like this one. I also wish the makers would consider making a sequel. I loved every moment of the game-play. The brilliant comic-like graphics, the sound and inspiring story-line, the believable and likable characters (droids included), the challenging puzzles ..... the quirkiness of it, all of it !!! Another game showing that there is no need to add fighting to make a game engaging and interesting. I really wish there were more games out there like this one. It is quite an unique gem not to be missed. Again to makers: please make a sequel !

It's a good successor

I loved the first game, Beneath A Steel Sky. I played it on the PC decades back, and twice on my phone via emulators. It's pretty linear but that's to be expected. The successor is just as good. It was also enjoyable to use my gamepad to play the game. The voice acting is thoroughly enjoyable and it's pleasant to meet some of the characters from the first game. There are plenty of easter eggs to look for though exploration is big, compared to the original. For those who like to get all of the achievements, I'd say it's worth it.

Absolutely worthy of the Revolution name

During a time period such as this, one tends to be very cynical when it comes to games. Maybe that is part of the reason why this game resonated with me so completely. One of the best adventure games (and games altogether) in a long while and a wonderful signifier how old studios like Revolution can still create worthwhile and unique games. I can't stress enough how good it feels to see studios with their own stamp and atmosphere on a new game that is unmistakeable. Emotional and atmospheric continuation of a classic with a story that definitely fits our own real world present moment. Quality is always timeless. I cherished this experience.
