After 26 years, Beyond A Steel Sky is a strange yet welcome sequel. Not quite fresh enough to stand alone nor nostalgic enough to stir the memory, it nevertheless manages to thoroughly entertain if not thrill.

I feel like I'm back
It took a bit to get going. Start wasn't bad and there's a few very clear graphical glitches throughout. Some of the puzzles are very much simpler, but the setting and the characters are still solid and I've enjoyed the narrative so far (I feel I'm halfway though, ish).

Keeps the good parts of the series
While some parts of the sequel did not age that well this game is really keeping the good things. Almost no time-based puzzles and if you manage to fail there's instant replay from autosave, great! An inbuilt hint system is also a great addition, although the puzzles seem to be lighter anyway than those of older games (as seems to be the trend). Almost no breaking of fourth wall, feels really professionelly written. Bonus points for the really great german version. Did not once have the impression to miss something due to translation.

fun
A worthwhile sequel in every way. I'm not going to spoil the story but it does leave me with questions. .Which is not a bad state for any story. I'm more invested in the world of Union CIty and the Gap than the first game ever left me in.
