The Best RPG Ever Made

Betrayal at Krondor is based off of Ramon E. Feists book series. The game, although now dated graphics by 2 decades, is by far the most engrossing RPG you will ever play. Non-Linear: This game is about 80% non-linear. You can go pretty much anywhere in the map, however in some parts of the story, you won't be able to go too far or the opponents get so overwhelming (batte after battle) you will eventually fall. Exploration: Explore anywhere. Go into caves and dungeons. Find locked chests and try to play the mini game to get what is inside. The mini game is more of a riddle, and you have to guess the riddle by changing the letters to create a word. Combat: The combat is intuitive and engaging. It is turn based and you have a character you can move. Shoot spells, engage in melee, or use crossbows to kill your opponents. Very fun!! STORY: The story is really compelling. You really feel like you are part of the novel. If you like medieval and magic, you will love this game. The types of spells in the game vary from and are truely useful. The story also splits up later in the game where you meet old allies and new characters. This game's story also has you running around trying to solve quests and a murder which is by far one of the best chapters of the game. I compel you to try this game out and learn what RPG's coming out in the 2000 century should be like.

These games should be sold seperatly !

Yes the graphics are old but the gameplay, storyline, character building are exceptional for its time. Anyone who enjoyed reading the magician series will enjoy this. The only down side to it is that some of the sounds dont work, e.g. using stones on swords, music dosent loop on the CD version. Oh and cheating totally ruins the game experience. There is plenty of cash in the game to get by and do quite well using the cheats robbs you of that fun so you may as well as view the storyline on youtube. Now Betrayal of ANTARA... Game play is really slow, slower than Krondor, the NPC interactions are amusing at first but you grow weary shortly after. Some of the dialogue is pretty funny and goes against the grain however other parts tow the line. I cant bring myself to play it any further as it just seems like a shitty version of Krondor (yep i said it) with slightly better graphics. These two games should come seperatly on GOG.

Granddaddy of RPGs

Betrayal at Krondor must have been the first RPG I ever played. It must have done something right, because since then I've loved RPGs, both computer and P&P. The game is suprisingly easy to get into, however it is also quite easy to get lost in it. Interesting story and simple enough first goal get you started quickly. Both inventory and combay system work nicely and they are easy to learn. Selecting skills you want your characters to focus on give opportunity to develop the characters in the way you want. All the basic elements of an RPG, they're all there and they're all working just right. However, keep in mind the things people say, even more so the further you get in the game. There ain't quest log to check when you get lost, so listen good and carefully what those NPCs say. Saving a game to return to it a month or two later may cause some problems. I've never had the pleasure of playing the game all the way through myself, but even playing those first few chapters all over again every now and then is guaranteed fun every single time.

Simply addictive

Without question Betrayal at Krondor is the most immersive rpg experience I have ever encountered for its time. As with all rpgs, you'll be drawn by the desire to experience new characters and watch them grow but what will really hook you in and keep you coming back for more is the depth of the world they have recreated and the richness of the story that unfolds. It plays like a great game but you'll remember it as an epic novel full of suspense and intrigue. More than 15 years later I still can't wait to jump back in again. A real tour de force critically acclaimed as 1993's game of the year by Computer Gaming World.
